The shippingcosts are about the same, around 50 dollars I think.

But you should look at it from a differnt perspective.
Say you order for 50 dollars, here's a example:

2'' shell 3 x 50 sets = 19.80$
3'' shell 2 x 38 sets = 15.20$
4'' shell 2 x 20 sets = 18.90$

Subtotal: 53.90$
shipping 50$

Total: 103.90$ = 58 pounds

3 x 50+2 x 38+2 x 20 = 304 shells

58/304= 0,20 pounds a shell, I think you can't get them anywhere cheaper.

But you do get a lot for 100$.

I Think i'll stick to 2" shells.

I got a test on sunday.
I'm testing x-mas bulb mortar version.
And we'll se how it goes.

Excuse my ignorance, but I thought that Xmas bulbs were made from glass?
Or are there plastic ones around?

Baubles can be made of many different materials. It only takes a 10 second search to see this.

Oh, Baubles

Yes, i would imagine they would make great shell hemis, and more redily available too.

Would save costs in the long run, such as shipping etc.

It's always worth cheking in your local art store. LOL...but true

I found perfect plastic 5 cm hemis for .10 p a piece.
They sell them fo home made xmas tree bulbs or baubles....what ever

It's funny how an art store sells stuff which is going to be blown apart in a couple of days time :D

I bought some discount unbreakable cristmas bulbs like .05$ each but you have to cut them open or fill throu small hole, I made some 2.5" shells w/ them they looked good or desent , I wish I'd videoed them.
I still think I prefer working w/ the plastic hemi's you can buy from suppliers better! There already in two interlocking parts and have timefuse hole.
Best price's I've found w/ shipping is at http://www.discountpyro.com/

2.5 .28 each
3" .33 each killer price.
As far as I can tell the christmas bulbs are abs plastic
and the plastic hemis are polystyrene which is also a little thicker on the hemis compared to bulbs, which in a un modified shell will break betterexample.. "no pasting string etc..."
I'll try to post some video this week, comparason of each w/ same burst and stars.

Not the cheapest but everyone should be able to find them as they are a global company. Kinder surprise chocolate eggs cost me 30p I get a face full of choc a little toy to build and what?s this? - A lovely simple to split 30 mm plastic egg to launch.

i think it better to roll cylindrical shells. you can make the desired diameter and the desired strenght so they wouldnt need any strenghtening at all.

just my thoughts

Back in the day when i was just a lil' tacker. A mate and I had managed to collect 3 garbage bags ( big black ones) full off kinder suprise shells and 2 bags full of "magic balls" or something like that. we lost all off them and i cant kick myself enough!! the magic balls would have been great for 2" round shells. they had the interlocking flange and everything why god, why do kids have to lose EVERYTHING

Round hemi's give a better symetric break I think? But I agree about rolling your own cylinder shells .
I save all my paperbags from the food store and grab some xtra's too.
Ive been rolling some 3" cylinders about 3mm thick ,then I saturate the outside w/ epoxy or wood hardner "from minwax company" and man do they make some loud salutes and awsome deep thunderous breaks w/ stars.
I have to go grab a usb cord so I can start to upload footage to share. Have lots!!

another easy way to obtain cyindrical shels is toilet paper.
I use these tubes a lot. They do need streanghtening though

Yeah, i have heard that spherical shells tend to give a more symetrical break, while the cylindrical shells tend to have a more random dispersion pattern.

Look forward to viewing all that footage!

Hi guys,
anyone tried the plastic balls used in kids playpens?

I bought 100 of them on ebay for about ?5. They're 2.73" diameter and weigh in at 10.75 grams.

Only downside is, you need to cut them in half first and then paper wrap them but I don't think thats a problem as they're very thin walled and need reinforcement, anyway. Paper wrap would bring them perfectly up to 3".

I just searched for plastic balls, on ebay. They turn up every so often and sometimes in large quantities.

Sandy
