Just wondering, why do I only get 60Kbps downloads from a 576Kbps broadband connection?

It depends on how many people are downloading the same stuff you are and also how fast is the server you are downlading from.

I find that the conection is better early in the morning and worst the whole rest of the day :P

Are you confusing kilobits with kilobytes possibly? e.g. a 576Kbps connection will be downloading stuff at a rate of 60-70Kb a second.

I've just downloaded and installed "Onspeed." It's a bit of software that compresses data, effectively speeding up your internet connection significantly - dialup or broadband. For me, pages now load six times faster.

On the downside, videos and music cannot be compressed by the software, so do not download any faster. However, it is, IMHO still worthwhile.

Anyway, it costs ?25.00 per year. If you're interested look at www.onspeed.com. No promises on my part - just thought I'd let you know.

Well, as soon as it came around here, we ordered up our nice, cosy 256k connection, and when it was finally delivered, I took a sneaky peek inside the modem, only to discover it had a jumper, labeled 128k | 256k | 512k | 576k |
2mbit. so being the cheating .. thing that I am, I switched it over, and up until recently, i have connected at 2.3 mbits.. that is until i got a surprise in the post.. my isp had upgraded all 2mb connections to 4.5 mbits. Silly people.. almost as good as micro$oft for free stuff! so i currently pay ?13.50 a month for a 4.5 mbit connection.. glad i didn't go to 576k! Well, i think my modem just started to predict the future so im going to see what the lottery results are. see you next time!
