i've read a few posts here that suggested to cover the ricehulls/ricecrispies with BP and Flash/whistlemix.
like covering the hulls with BP first and then covering them with an extra layer Flash or whistlemix? did i get that right?

i was wondering if it wouldnt be better, to roll the flash/whistlemix-layer onto the hulls first and put the BP-layer on second.
in a way that the blackpowder would break the shell, accelerating the stars, which then get the kick from the flash/whistlemix, and accelerate even more.

what do you guys think?

I don't really see the point of covering the rice hulls with FP/ Whistle mix and then with BP.
I think that BP'ed rice hulls are sufficient + a small spoon full of Fp or whistle mixh to burst the shells.
I thiink that there would be a possibility that there would be too much FP/Whistle mix on the rice hulls to blow the stars out

Just my opinion.

Take care

I'm not sure of this, but I think I read that a significant function of the flash or whistle is to quickly increase the internal pressure, better allowing the BP (or KP, to an even greater extent) to function as an effective burst charge. If this is true, then you would want the energetic material to burn first. As Pretty green flames said, it is common to simply place the loose composition in the shell, or to contain it in a bag at the end of the fuse, near the centre of the shell.

The BP Coating of Hulls is Wet Process, Whistle mix, Either NA, P, Benzoate or Salicylate are all pretty "waxy" on a molecular/Chemical Level, so

1.The only Whistle mix that has any kind of "Binder" Quality is Salicylate, so what binder are you going to use that does not sacrifice the goal of Bigger Gas Production/Intensity/Bang?
2. Would the BP Stick to Hulls You Coated First with whistle since the Whislte Mix will Only Shed h20/Detrin/Meal.

I say Stick with a Dry hulls, Put them in a Paper Lunch sack, Add Your Measured Whistle Mix, twist of the top and turn, rotate, I hesitate to say shake rattle or roll, a few times and your hulls will be coated just fine.....Tried and trued

BP / Rice hulls are sometimes only used as well as flash / hulls just to 'bulk' the burst charge out - ie 5g of burst may be sufficient but it may still be 'sparse' so BP / rice is used to fill the extra space.
