The Royal Mint has commissioned a new 2005 issue ?2 sterling coin to celebrate the 400th year anniversary of the Gunpowder Plot. The coin features the symbols of state and a surround of stars. It's edge is inscribed 'Remember, Remember, the Fifth of November'.

If anyone is interested in owning what I feel is a nice souvenir of this special anniversary, then follow this link:

Ah what a glorious, varied and vibrant history we have. Looks like a worthwhile piece of memorabilia (400 years late) :)

yeah its a nice bit of history, but i know kids. I used to go to an school that was over 400 years old. they had a traditon of giving "beer money" (not as fun as it sounds) which was a single ?5 coin, to the first years.
I remember watching in discust as a load of boys spent that silver ?5 coin in the school tuck shop.
Sad times i figured, but im sure it hasnt changed.

useless background info for those interested:
Beer money was given to school kids centuries ago, every year, as the water was not safe to drink. School kids were given money to buy watered down ale, which because of the brewing process was safe to drink, instead of water. My old school was a decendant of the company that brews guinnes, and more, and they continue this tradition with each generation, in brewer's hall, London, every year.

Right, back to school for me then!

I have a first date of issue ?1 framed coin (1983), and of course I could spend it, but you just shouldn't do those things.

No, never. Dont wary, not all teenage boys would do such things. I never would. While we are on the topic of money, I am a millionair :D I have a one million Inti note. Unfortunately peru does not use inti's anymore :( Actualy, if i count all the out of date currency I am a multi millionair as I have a 1920's fifty million mark note :)
