Anyone know of any sources for boric acid? Other than chemical suppliers...
Most ceramic suppliers should carry it.

It's a mild antiseptic and you certainly used to be able to get it at chemists quite cheaply.
It's used in solution for cuts and grazes and my mum used to use it in a very dilute solution as an eye wash...

I'm planning on ordering from Keten, and from I've read previously its a good site and reliable, but does any one know if I order AN (ammonium nitrate) if there will be trouble with customes and a waste of money. (by the way I live in the UK).
Cheers for any replys
What do you want the ammonium nitrate for?
Various grades are easily available in the UK. Although with the current situation I would imagine ammonium nitrate would be frowned upon especially as it has limited uses in pyrotechnics due to its hygroscopic nature etc.
I have not had any parcels stopped from Keten, but I have not ordered AN from him as I have no real use for it.

Equally, I have never had a package stopped from him.

I am doing a video project where I want to capture different explosions with a high frame rate camera, and hopefully get some good footage, one of the different types I want to record along with flash powder etc is a ammonium nitrate fuel oil detenation.
Thanks for the replys and my main concern of it being allowed though customs is as you put it with the "current political state of our country", because of this I may have to leave it out of the montage (which is a shame). cheers

This is really a pyrotechnic forum, and manufacture of HE is not condoned in any shape or form and discussion banned.
If you do decide to make this composition then there is a very good chance of a knock at the door by some friendly intelligence officers wanting a bit of a word as there is only one use for it.
If the video project is for academic research etc then approach the authorities, get the proper licenses and then there should be no problem getting chemicals you require.
