Hi All

I recently ran out of KNO3 from Garden Direct as i only bought 500g and just wondered if buying more e.g 2kg is reasonable or will this draw unwanted attention

Thankyou. :D

The people at Garden Direct Know that some members of the UK pyro community buy Potassium nitrate from them, and it seems they are fine with it. 2kg will draw less attention than 500g, and buying a tonne will draw less attention than buying a few kilo's. This is because the legitimate (agricultural) customers buy it in bulk.

Buy 2kg if you want, but if you predict that this hobby will last I'd buy 25kg. Its pretty cheap, so if you quit you only wasted a couple of quid. Last time I bought Potassium nitrate I bought 75kg.

Thanks Seymour,

I suppose I never really looked at it in that way, I will put an order through for 2kg and when that runs out of that hopefully i will have been paid and so can buy in bulk which saves on delivery too.

Are there any U.K. suppliers of small quantities (C.100g) of Cab-O-Sil?
I can find it upwards of 500g,but at 1 % in Perch. This is way more than I need,
It's not so much cost as having stuff I won't use hanging around.

I'm afraid Phil doesn't sell Oxidizers. You could try ebay or Garden Direct, also searching this thread may turn up a few

Ok Thanks.

Do you know if Inoxia is still trading - their website looks as if it hasn't been updated.

According to the prices there I could get 4 Kg for just over 20 quid.

I can't find any at the local garden centres anymore.

Yeah, we're still trading. We havn't updated in a long while as we didn't see any need. I may put up a some new news on the front page.
Do buy some Cab-O-Sil, it takes up so much space. :)

Has anyone out there managed to locate any conductive lampblack? Id like some for testing but cant find anyone commercially selling it. It does need to be conductive which I believe means only Acetylene lampblack is suitable?

if you have some or know where I can get some please PM or email me

Cheers guys

Indeed Im returning to them to see what can be done. the problem I had with graphite was that the current needed to induce firing was so high or the % of graphite needed to make current required lower they were almost useless.

I will however post all my results
