I'd suggest using KCLO4 based stars, that way they would be compatible with Sulphur compostion.

If no other option is avalliable thry priming your stars with sulphurless comp first then with something like BP, that would aid ignition of your secondary prime which is IMO a bit hard to ignite becouse the sulphur is missing.

I had tried to used KCLO4 stars composition like the one posted on Alany web, but it does not work so well when I tested with my star's tester. I had change the composition as posted in the previous post. I tested it in my stars tester and it work find. I prime them with sulfurless primer (KCLO4/carbon/ aluminum/Dextrin). There were once I even add another primer (Flash Charge Primer) for the sick of it and yet the results still blinds stars.

when i use flash in any shell i always extend the spoolette with a thin walled tube. the top of the spoolette has 1 layer of thin tissue to stop the FC going into the spoolette. fill the tube with FC and close the end up by crimping. i always have the idea that the flash should be in the center. the orange dusty flame can be very annoying. i only have KN03 to make burst charges, matbe seeing without for myself will make me source something else.

oh and Kembang Api do you have any still images or vids of your shells?

Do you thought about building a only clorate based shell?

I shot a 3" shell with green, bariumchlorate based stars wich were primed with the bursting charge H3. Bursted with H3 on Corn Cob all stars ignited. So you don?t need to use sulphur in combination with the chlorate based stars.

I would rather work with Perchlorate than chlorate. I started to change to chlorate was due to my failure in trying to produce a good colour stars using perchlorate. So far I used Alany's composition. I had not try any other composition that are found in the net. If I would to choose, I personal would work with perchlorate.

What about the fusing for the chlorate shell? Wouldn't a lot of fuses use sulfur because they are meal powder? I sure hope your not making H3 spoulettes :P

Maybe use cocoa powder spollette with some BP paste to aid ignition on the lift end

why not use the flash tube method? the tube will keep the spolette bp seperate and the flash wont contain chlorate.

I have made spoulettes before using just charcoal and KNO3 in ratio 3:7.
It needs to be milled for a long time as it tends to burn more slowly.

As far as spoulettes is concern, I used time fuse and added a black fuse which is made with surfur. Since the bursting charge is also using sulfur. It's okay

If you are reffering to the stars which is Chlorate base stars composition. I cover it with sulfurless primer. It is a safe stars now. So it should be okay to mix it with a sulfur contain type of composition.

This is not a chlorate shell but is a chlorate base stars

I don?t know if it is of any interest, but I made some pics of my new unfinished shells.

They will be both 3". The stars are willowstars and are rock hard but not as round as I would like them to be :) But for a flash-break shell these will do the job I think.

This is one of my halves made out of wheatpaste and newspapers (machine-cutted to 4,5cm strips to make shells around a tennisball; and YES, they?re quite stable and very sturdy :) ).

The igniter was allready glued in place and some crumbly blackmatch was put in to aid better ignition :)

Here you can see the stars. The powder was too fine, so they got bumpy while rolling. The flashbag is missing in both pics. I?ll add it when I finish them. Hate it to store mixed flash....

I think, I?ll finish them over the next few days.
