Wow! This shell looks pretty (big) :)

I hope we get a video of that thing as soon as you?ll shoot it?! And a few more pics of the manufacturing process would be great, too!

with best regards,

paul

EDIT: Today i pasted a new 3" ballshell... 1g Flash as the burst, one half filled with 5 20mm tigertail comets, the rest of the space filled up with 3mm cuts. The other half is fully filled with cuts, and 5 12mm stars.

Lets see what this will look like... :D

I have made my 5 inch into a test shell, to test 1. my red stars 2. my burst 3. the whistle booster 4. the twin spoolettes 5. lift charge 6. one of my scatter stars containing 2 red stars. The shell has 9 pumped red stars hot glued to the spoolette-less hemi rim in a smiley face arrangement, the burst charge is willow bp on grass seeds with 8g whistle booster. The shell has 2 pastings of gummed tape so far and its weight is 425g, i will put 10 layers of tape around the shell. Here is a pic.

Looks good, karl!

I look forward to the video of that shell. Looks sooo big :)

I never got to build a shell greater than 3" ball or 4" cylindrical shell ):
So, your 5" impresses me :P

just seeing the note about tubes... Both MLE and Kimbolton sell the glass fibre tubes and they are reasonable priced apart from being more durable than the cardboard tubes.

Mark

PS: nice looking shell, just make sure we get to see video footage of it :)

The shell looks great :) .

Can you tell me how you fold those lift cones, can't seem to find it anywere, or is it just a piece of paper pasted over it?(the ones I folded looked awefull)
And is that quickmatch commercial?

The cones are made from kraft paper, if you roll it into a cone shape and and place a 40mm card disk inside you can press the point into the disk. If you cant picture it i will make steps to do it for you. The quickmatch is commercial yes. Fired with a home made ignitor.

I might add a comet, i have seen large tail-less coloured comets attached to shells and love the strobe effect because the spin. I have always made the comet so that the quickmatch leader lights it....is this the way its done? Or is it done by priming the comp and the lift gasses light the prime then comet?

I will also be firing this, its a 2 inch comet bp mixture with willow charcoal with magnesium yellow stars in the top compartment. Should look nice, will fire it tomorrow with the shell.

I like the labels on your shells / mines. Gives them a very professional feel.

Are they for aesthetic purposes or more legal risk mitigation.

ie:

Policeman : Hello Hello Hello - Is this pyro legal?

Hardened Pyro fiend : Why yes ossifer! See? Fully professional labels!

Glad you like them, even though they will be burnt and blasted never to be seen again. I do put them on fo the pro look, the 5 inch does look like a pro one! Its so huge, and weighs loads, fully loaded and pasted over 0.5kg! I get so nervous when pasting. I just hope it works well!!! And it breaks in the correct way to see the :)

Looks great! Very pleased you took the time and effort to put labels on. It just wraps it up nicely! I do that too and sometimes put them in white kraft paper like Spanish material... it just looks so sexy!
