I timed it and it was 4.7 seconds! It must have gone really high though, it was perfect!

It could already have been on its way down, too :D

But yeah, the Ti-willow effect is great!

Wazi said it was on its way down but i thought it was at apex, that ti willow is soooo nice!! Me and waz are now working on 1. 3" red and blue half and half 2. 3" purest green peony (is that correct waz?) 3. 30mm bombette candle (mixed colours) 4. 2" interesting mine (mixture of stars)

We will film all of them! (lens cap off might be better :D )

I must say his purest green is beautiful!!!

Your shell was beautiful! I liked the glitter effect! If I only could get my hands on some good sized Ti...

paul

I made a 4" willow sperical shell last new year. It was very beautiful (I tend to like charcoal stars by the way), but it didn't show on my video either. It looked very alike your shell.
It's a shame that the DV-cameras are so expensive...

Oglesbys "Better Pearl" gives an really really great effect!!!
Its

47 KNO3
10 Ba(NO3)2
10 Al [i used the cheap 50? Al]
18 Sulfur
10 Charcoal [I used coffeegrinder- milled willow charcoal]
5 Dextrin

Its a very cheap star, but it spreads blinking bits everywhere :D

Yugen what do you call good size Ti? ..I want to place an order for some Ti but not sure what mesh size would be best..Its very expensive so i can only really afford 2 mesh sizes..

Also it comes in 2 Forms ? T1 and T3?.. The finest is 0-100 microns?.. any suggestions?

By the way karl, how did the splitting stars insert perform? Did you construct them as on passfire? My attempts have resulted in only one end blowing out instead of both.

The one in the shell may have blown blind because we heard a crack on the video but i dont remember seeing them light! I think the trick is to try and not have one end much weaker than the other so the same amount of glue for each end.

I opted for the clay/paper end disk construction method rather than the hot melt method.

I'll make a few more tests and let you know karl. I'll try doing away with the powdered clay between the stars and the end disks to see if that helps.

Good stuff, what bp burst have you been using? I used powdered willow and not granulated, this may have been a problem for my ones. I will load some up and ground test them over the weekend.

I've been using just under 1/4 teaspoon of 2fg equivalent willow blackpowder in a 3/8" id tube, 1.5" long with 8mm pumped stars. I will do likewise on monday and tuesday when i get my days off work.

Also my 2" comet and Pauls 2" mine (mixed effects/colours) At the moment i am working on another 5 inch shell (pink and blue kaleidoscope w/ silver core) Should be good to fire it in a few weeks...

I followed RegimentalPyro's advice, and went to Wilko's to get some 'Rustins Cellulose Thinner'. I've used it to glue two hemi's together, but I noticed that just like when I tried using Acetone, cracks started to appear on the plastic. Image below.

I'm probably letting the shell off tonight (and getting a video, I'm trying out red stars), so hopefully it'll go fine, but is this normal?

No, there should not be cracks. That is just weird. It's Polystyrene I believe so it generally will form stress marks if you are pressing too hard or something. Do the cracks form just from the solvent, or are you pressing the hemis together too?
