I always use willow for almost all my work.
Well i tryed another one today and it reached 30m, i think it was the gap between the shell and mortar, the new one where inserted very tight on the mortar.
Now i have to use better lift.

Yepp, the gap affects the height very much, though this effect will decrease the faster the lift charge burns. Also, the lenght of the mortar should be good to exploit all the power of the lift charge.
Normaly, I need to give my shells a bit of a push to make them slide all the way down to the bottom of the mortar. I've never experienced any problems with that.

Hmm. You are right, i tryed this today with a bigger shell, i had to push it (moderate force) to slide down. I also used better lift powder (i think i'll stick to that one).
I got a very good lift off the height was 50-60 meters, the mortar made a strong sound.
The only thing was that i was left out of stars today and i filled my shell with many small ones (aqua).
But it worked fine i guess.
Here's the vid http://www.zippyvide.../3inch_tt_aqua/

Nice shell :) The lift was very good. Good sound and a fine height for that type of shell.
I'm a fan of high altitude breaks, but sometimes it makes the effect less impressive.

I need to reach this altitude or maybe more.
How high does a usual shell go?

It depence a lot on wich type of shell you are using, but I remembered a text wich said the "normal" height for professional shells. I didn't manage to find the text, but I remembered 90m for a 2" shell.
The height is nothing to be afraid of as long as it gets high enough to break safely and nice.

Thanks, will do the sencond part when my violet stars dry out some more. The design is one I have always used, so I know it works. I have also made this shell with home made hemispheres before. A slight varient is the Saturn shell so I my write a section on those.

I will be completing the second part as soon as I have rolled the rest of the purple stars, they are growing in size and im making them 7mm with prime. They appear to be going well so far so watch this space. Hopfully by next weekend the part 2 will be done and the shall can be made ready to fire.

6" saturn shell.

Red planet, als silver streamer ring. I also put in an outter petal which had dark comp to green, and would have ignited when the planet burned out. However these were underprimed 2sad.gif You can see two ignite at the end of the vid.

Oh well.

No more to say! Can't wait until my 6" mortar is finished. The stars on pic 3 was very nice too.
Perfectly round and uniform.

Very nice indeed, huge shame about the prime.
