What are you using for the green Beraq flash?? KClO4/Ba(NO3)2/parlon with Mg? or MgAL?. Look forward to seeing the vids, happy spiking!

Hurrah - got 3 blobs at last - here's to the next 200 posts :P

I cant tell the formula but it contains flake aluminium not magnesium or magnallium! Makes a nice green too, nice and loud. Should make a nice ripping sound. The shell will need 80 beraq, thats 16 per ring and 5 rings. The first two rings are green so 32 of them and the other 3 rings are red 48.

The delay is made different by using higher quality blackpowder and less redgum for the paste, so the delay from first ring to second should be just over the delay from break to first ring.

Yes the spiking should be very fun :D

Karl, the shells sound fantastic - look forward to the vids...

Maybe something like Visser Green flash? Perc 43, Barium Nitrate 21, Dark AL 36 ?

With the first Yellow and Lavendar shell, I would be tempted to use a different pistil in the second break - maybe a glitter or strobe. This would kind of give a natural progression from the willow and build up to the huge bottom shot.

As regards requests for vids/pics, maybe you could suggest a local countryside pub from where the test shots might just happen be visible on a particular evening, on a particular compass bearing, hypothetically speaking of course. :) Good luck!

Its similar but at the same time very different! :P

I might dump the willow and just keep to my fave glitter Winokur 20, will have to think but yes maybe be nice to see both! Have not mastered strobes yet, done a couple of tests but none are as I would like them. Deffo on my to-do list though.

How about Williams no-antimony glitter? I've not tried it myself but Regimental Pyro was extolling its virtues the other week, and IMHO a white glitter might provide a better colour contrast to yellow and lavender. A big, slow flashy silver glitter would be even better, but I don't know of any formulations hence my post of a few weeks ago.

Oh for some Chinese Needle!!!

Hey guys, sorry tu butt in but I recently uploaded a video of my latest "quick and dirty" 3" shell...

http://uploaded.to/?id=ri8pk7

I wanted to test my CIA black powder for lift purposes. So I filled a small 3" can with 20mm pumped tigertails left over from NYE...

Red and Green!
I will be filling them all up tomorrow, just about to drill the holes in every single one. Ended up making 180 cases so I have some spare! Takes a while but has helped my hangover today :D

The delay powder is nearly ready to be mixed with gum arabic and made into paste.

Nice shell Paul, the lift looks great!

It's been a long time since I posted any video, but here is a clip of two shells we fired with newyears eve.
4 inch shells

Recorded with a crappy analog camera so the colours are not as vivid and deep is in real life.
Have lots more video's as we fired about 40 shells :)

Done a test of my beraq delay, please take a look. The delay is supposed to be very very short, im pleased as they only look to be 2 frames apart from looking at them in sony vegas. If anyone can do better tests on the video please do.

Beraq Delay Test

You get a good strong flame inside too!

Update:

I have made a sample taken from careful timings for each one. If those 4 were in a shell this noise would happen. The first bang is simulation of shell break, then you get the beraq as they would have gone off.

Sound of beraq

Just tried out an orange formula in a 4" shell, I added some smaller stars to the lift for low level effect.

Im going to sort the break out as im far from happy with it, it was a nice test of my orange stars though.

maybe not quite spherical, but OK none the less. The stars sem to have a slight strobe like twinkle to them - was that real or an artefact of the video. Love the comment on the audio too!
