I just think that there is no real problem using flash in the bottom shot. The maltese use kilograms of flash for just a few shells, so why shoud 50 propperly handled grams be a problem :)

I know I will get beaten up for saying this but hey. It´s like that and karlfoxman is a skilled worker!

Indeed ! One thing I love about Italian/Maltese shells both, the sweet rich, full color breaks. Some people ooh and ah over perfect symmetry of round shells ( which is nice, don't mistake me ) but I love the bright thick splashes of color from a good cylinder shell.

I have another 4" color/whistle/report shell about ready to go, hopefully this time my video skills are up to the challenge, last time I got the flipping thing into "low light" mode just before the lift, and it films at 4 fps and all that came out is a glare of color, silver streaks from the whistles, and echoing boom of a 110 gram Ti flash bottom shot :(

In person it was most pleasing though, but I felt an idiot for my camera goof.

I do love the deep rumble of a bottom shot, I do not like making them and hate spiking a shell with flash in it. Makes me very nervous, I will have to make some single breaks just to check my comets and break now I have changed a few things. I do have another video of the shell from a longer distance and I will upload this soon. I still have a few ideas I want to try with different colours and effects. Yes it was Win 20, my fave!!! :D

How rude I never replied to some things,

Pyrotrev, yes that may be an option and something I will look into. Maybe some of those perchlorate and flake + dextrin streamer stars granulated would work well. Its an idea I have thought of to make very bright colour reports for beraq.

Frozentech, would be great to see some pictures mate! That bottom shot sounds a big of a noise maker. I guess 10% Ti as its 110g :P Post some pictures of it, and the video!!!

Well, mine can hardly compare to karlfoxman's shells ;) but here goes.

Action shot

Movie

It was a 3" Round shell with better pearl stars (+ a couple of micro stars in the centre of the break but it didn't work too well).

Please comment :)

Very nice shell PGF, liked it alot. Never tried better pearl but it looks really nice. Any construction pictures? The break was nice and round, what burst you use?

Sorry, no construction pics. For burst i used fast willow pulverone, no flash booster. This was a plastic shell, i glued the halves together with cyanoacrylate glue and pasted the whole shell with 3 layers of craft. Cyanoacrylate glue bonds the halves like hell, i mean i have used acetone, MEK and some glue for building model airplanes (melts plastic) and they didn't even come close to the strenght of cyanoacrylate.

Yes , cyanoacrylate is strong, but expensive as hell !! :P

I just fired a 1-2/3" ID round paper shell yesterday. It was D1 glitter star + D1 tail.

My 2nd shell btw :)

Is cyanoacrylate not just superglue? or am I mistaken?

Pretty green flames, I thought that was a superb break fr a 3" shell with no booster!

What mesh aluminium did you use for the better pearl?

Thanks, i used -120mesh granular aluminium, the formula specifies 20micron atomized but i don't have that size and besides, the -120mesh granular is cheap as chips and works like a charm :)

The better pearl formula I saw used 12 micron. I'm not too sure what micron is equivlent to what mesh or if it is possible to calculate one from another. I'm not sure what I have but I believe it's -325 mesh. It's the stuff from tiranti if anyone knows exactly. I guess I could try it.

Made a quick 3" Cylindrical shell with Win 20 glitter. It uses the Gamon plastic case and has 10mm Portugese time fuse. Have a look :D

Lovely ! The Win20 delay was so extreme it was strobe-like :) Pretty shell.

Lovely glitter that Karl. What break charge did you use? Not knocking your work in any way whatsoever, its just that the break on Pretty green flames 3" above seemed fuller and he said it was only pulverone!? I dont know what shell cases he used but I thought Gamon shells were very strong. By the way, do these Gamon plasics fit normal 1/4" time fuse?

Well it was a Cylindrical shell not a ball shell, it was bp on rich hulls. With 3g of whistle to boost. The shells are made to take 10mm fuse, but 1/4" can be fitted with no problem. I have done this many times before. Just wrap paper around the fuse till it becomes a tight push fit into the fuse hole. You can seal with epoxy or hot glue. Yes the glitter looks great, was left over from my Maltese shell.
