By the way guys. For my 6" shells im planning on using BP as break, will this be strong enough to break the shell HARD if I paste about 30 layers or more?
For my 4" bow tie shells I'v used BP on hulls with a 2g flashbag with great results. Will a 2 or 3g flashbag overbreak the 6"?
I'm looking to get as good break as in the first and last ones in my earlier video ( http://uk.youtube.co...h?v=aPLszMNv7yY ).

If youīve got good blackpowder (which I assume you got, looking at the lift charge...) bp on rice crispies
or whatever carrier is sufficient! I donīt exactly know what pasting method you use, but Iīve used the 3-strip-method
with much success on my 6" shells! Always used between 12 and 15 layers of relatively thin kraft, soaked with wheat-glue.
hat equals the double ammount of layers then, that is 24 and 30 layers.

Of course a 2g flash booster centered in your shell will create a rounder burst. just donīt use too many layers of kraft!

Pihop: You need only good lift! Stars are nice, mainly double-color stars. Nice.
Karel.

I don't really understand what you mean, sorry.

Normally I use the 3-strip method using gummed paper tape (too lazy to make real paste and whatnot). If I remember correctly my paper tape is equal in strengt to 70lb craft paper.

I think I'm going for a 2g flash bag.
Will 26 (13) layers be overkill with the booster?

EDIT:
Some pictures.

Hallo. I need youre help. Can you write me a making proces for twisted paper, pasted with black powder? Shimizu described this in his book, but he mention, that instructions are in the Lancasterīs book. He recomending to use in hummers, and bickford fuses(better ignition).......
Thanks.

I managed to escape to the Cornish countryside over Easter to test some shells :

Posted Image

I fired a 3" Veline Orange, 3" Red white and gold, 4" paper Electric Magenta peony and 5" paper Slow Gold brocade.

The weather was foul, with a blustery wind straight off the Atlantic.

The 3" shells were good - it seems a hybrid of plastic with 4 layers of kraft pasting works well with good symmetry given a substantial whistle boost.

The 4" magenta peony was my first real failure. It was based on a dextrin bound strontium nitrate comp (Freeman KP MgAl Purple) which is a beautiful colour on the ground. I pumped 1/2" stars and they dried fairly easily, primed with a hot Si prime. Unfortunately it was pouring with rain while I closed the shell and wet pasting the paper hemis can't have helped - not one of the stars ignited in the air :(

The 5" slow gold brocade with 3/4" pumped stars was fun. The strong wind scrambled the burst but the hang time was at least 25s and it burnt almost to the ground. I used cheap charcoal and the wrong grade of Ti but ultimately it seemed to work. Here's the vid:

I used shimitzu's burstcharge an fulcanelli's technique for this shell.

I do not have many pictures, only when the shell is closed or finished.

Is there a way to upload some pictures on this forum?

Joseph - I can't seem to play the vid with either WMP or Quicktime - was it made using a special codec?

Very good shell - the inserts are perfect!! are the holes in your ones in the middle or end of the tubes?
