Some time ago, I saw this (1,5 MB) effect in a freak pyromaniacs clip. I tried several formulas based on charcoal and lampblack but couldn't achieve such a bright and long-lasting effect. I believe that probably ferro-titanium was used, but I'm not sure. If it is ferro-titanium, what particle size and which alloy exactly should I try? Or is there another way to achieve this effect?

Looks like poka shells with twinkle or a charcoal star with Ti or as you say FeTi. Shouldn't be to hard to make if you have some Ti.

So you suggest that a formula like this one might work? (I can't try, because I have no access to my chemicals at the moment.)
66 KNO3
13 Charcoal
8 Titanium
8 Sulfur
5 Dextrin
(source: PFP)

What type of Titanium would you recommend?

It looks OK.
Ti of around 250?m gives large enough sparks to be seen fom the ground. (Maby bigger.)
It does not really matter if you use FeTi, Ti or Skylighters "Ti alloy" in form of flake, sponge or granules. But sponge is better to use, because of friction problems.
