potassium perchlorate problem....

What is good test to find out if your perc is really perc? I have made reds using t that look great and whistle that burns fast, i just have heard stories of people buyong perc and ending up with POTASSIUM CHLORATE!!!!! I want my mind put at rest. Thanks guys.

Just a quick 2p's worth.. best to get any chems from a reputable source as the repacutions of using something that should be a perchlorate but is actualy a chlorate can be a little unfriendly.

Thanks mate, will give it a go and fingers crossed it turns out to be perc. I have two batches, one from a good source and the other from a not so good source. For safety rather than wanting to know if i have been ripped off! :unsure: :unsure:

Drip a very small amount of H2SO4 onto a very small quantity of the mystery powder - if you get a reaction it ain't KCLO4 (or is, but contamined with KCLO3) and likely to be the O3. Not the most scientific, but it will show you that it ain't safe if it is O3.
