It's not completely finished yet so it isn't looking great, but it works.

Picture three shows how the nitrocellulose application works. The pulley set up is submerged in the tin to the right of the picture, this is shrinking dope , that is found in model shops. I used fabric die in this to give it the green colour.

I will try to get some videos of it soon.

One of my other hobbies as metalworking so this can really help pyrotechnics in many ways.

tdpyro, would it be impossible to explain the first step, where the black powder gets into the first layer of yarn?!

I really do not understand how it flows down the funnel and then the whole string story gets spinned around that. How does that work?! in the original explanation on rec.pyro I didn?t get it either.

What sort of speed do you get? Is any degree of skill required to operate it at all?

It is very easy to use the machine, all that is required is too fill the BP funnel, turn on the vibrator so that BP (60-100mesh) flows and just rotate the orange collection drum. All the other pulleys are geared from this.
(I have made a motor to be mounted on to it, you may be able to see the white cog at the top of the drive shaft, but havent tried using it yet)

When it's running this spindles turn at a very high-speed, it's just a blur as you will see when I upload the video.

It can be very cheap, its dependant on what type of threads that are used. In the current setup im using a standard poly-cotton sewing thread, I got all the thread for about ?13, and each spool is 500m. The rest of the price is BP, which it doesnt take much of and its so cheap.
However the poly-cotton threads are really not ideal. They actually burn rather than ember, with a yellow flame and produce a nasty smoke. I have tried it with some pure cotton thread which works much better, but its a lot more expensive and hard to find in the right size.

The machine looks AWESOME, I may have a go at building my own over christmas. To cold to go out side and do pyro so why not make myself a couple of hundred metres of Visco until it's warm enough to risk going outside

Me to cause i am not entirly for sure on how this process works but AWSOMESS it is great love the machine, i think i will use meccano to build a mini one lol. What exactly do them gears do with the different grooved levels?
