Is there a way to move misplaced messages to the right topic? I thought there was in the past. Someone whacked a thread that was started yesterday (that should have been in another area) instead of moving it. It is probably much easier to delete things but then again, the member who posted the question had a legititmate topic - he just posted it incorrectly.

It was deleted becuase the question was totaly covered about 6 times. Maintaining that would have just brought legitimate duplicate answers covering the subject seven time. It would have added nothing to the forum. The member was notified.

Ok.. While I don't want to anger the folks who bring us such a good board, I would like to see six posts on the forum that compare black willow to weeping willow charcoals. Or even one - the search I did for black willow got quite a few hits and even one posting where someone asked the questions about relative strengths. However, no one answered the question. I dread saying what I just did because one can easily be proved wrong on such things. I searched using 'black willow' as the target.

To some extent, discussion is what a forum is all about. While fireworks has limited major topics, the nuances of the topics are infinite. One can always answer every message with 'that's been discussed before, so we're taking it off.' There are many nuances to the threads and it might be ok to back off on the whacking a bit. The forum wouldn't be hurt and the users would enjoy the social aspects of a good clean board. However, the rules are yours as always.

May I assume that there is no technical problem with moving a message or new thread into another thread?

That is correct. I on average do this more then 6 times a day. However, sometimes I take judgment that the poster had not made even limited amount of search before posting, and if that is the case, I take measures that will require that member to make an effort of re-writing his posts in the right place.

Note that even you, when seeing the post, have estimated that the post should have gone into a different thread.

Ladykate, I can reassure all of those who wonder why certain posts are deleted or modified, that a considerable amount of thinking goes into each of those actions. And while we might get it wrong sometimes, the principles are fair, and complaints are dealt better with off line. In this case, the member has been notified, understood and agreed.

I also agree that it might be that the subject of fireworks is a limited subject. I would however not FORCE posts because we run out of topics to talk about or it?s a bit quite. If the forum will sum up the knowledge of fireworks in the world and nothing else is to be done, then so be it. Quality ? not quantity.
