Hey, today I made my very own BP for the first time (well green meal i think there call it as it wasnt that fine). New to the scene of Pyro, i didnt quite know what to exspect, even thought iv spent months and months of reading into it. I got the KNO3 and sulpher from ebay, so it could have been anything for all i knew. I used some quick burning coal I found lying around the garage (not the BBQ stuff). eger to exsperiment, I found the old pestal and morter. I didnt want to use the ratio 75:15:10 incase i didnt work for some reason and incase of wasting chemicals, so i settled for 15:3:2 as i was in the kitchen. after what seemed liked hours of grinding, i made a little whole in a wine cork and placed a small amount into it and lit. it burnt befor i could even blink, I was half exspecting it to not light at all. This little exsperiment has really flared up my ambition for pyro and going to make me use more safety procautions next time :glare:

Hi Nu Kid,
congrats on your successful first attempt.

Safety is paramount in this science, so make sure you take ALL precautions you can.

On a slightly pedantic note, however, you have made what is, I suppose, an understandable error in your statement above.

The "RATIO" 75:15:10 is exactly the same as the "RATIO" 15:3:2

What you have done, I presume, is to use the "QUANTITY" 15 grams with 3 grams and 2 grams, to save chemicals.

I know I'm being "picky" but this science can literally have bits of you flying about the room, if you aren't accurate.

Best of luck.

Sandy

Well done Nu Kid, now you can try experimenting with different methods such as Ball Milling and the CIA method to find which Black Powder you prefer. :D

I'm looking forward to being able to do a post like this, but am sadly many months behind the curve. Still waiting for the IPP book to arrive from the States. -_- And am not prepared to start experimenting till it does and I've read it cover to cover.

That's how I learned ..I bought "tom pergrins book" read it 5 times over until I knew what I was doing, and felt very confident!
If theres any question in your mind of uncertainty ,dont try it till you understand it !!
That way you stand many years of enjoyment in pyroteknics not many years in a hospital and going thru
rehab to learn how to use your new fake limb or what not!!
Its not worth being stupid in pyro or any part of life really!
Your farther ahead then you think! Just by reading posts and spending time talking to knowledgeable
people on this great site is worth just as much as the book your waiting for..use it too your advantage.
You have got a great start just in respecting how important saftey and knowledge are..
Pyro is no place for lack of patience eitheir, measure twice then check it again, then cut once Is the right attitude to have keep it up.

I love it! I can buy a pack of smokes which will hurt me for sure! Yet theres a 1000 laws in place to protect me from myself . I guess its ok to harm your self if its slow and will help the economy.
