Okay, please forgive me if this is something obvious, but i did search and found alot of results regarding sulphur but none mentioning green or yellow sulphur.

I went down to my local garden centre earlier to look for the components to make my first batch of BP, i found charcoal no problems, and then i came across 2 bottles of sulphur, one called yellow sulphur and the other green sulphur. Whats the difference between the two? which one is best suited for making BP?

I didn't see any potassium nitrate so i'll need to source that elsewhere.

Any advice would be appreciated

Thanks

I got my first lot of Sulphur from a Garden Centre, use the Yellow Sulphur, it's the one I used and it works perfectly well.

Green sulfur is dusting or "wetable" sulfur. It has a fair percentage of powdered clay.

As sizzle says, use the yellow variety. Pure sulphur is yellow. The green type has been adulterated with various compounds and green dye. However, even the yellow variety of horticultural grade sulphur is only about 95% pure, but will work just fine for most applications.

The ChemPack sulphur pellets i used were a horrible mucky green/gray colour..But it works perfect for making BP... No need to worry...If you are really picky(Like me) it may discolour the flame slightly in some color formulas..

I'll close those thread after this reply. This was already posted in the past - search.

In general, the both yellow sulphur and green sulphur that you commonly find in British Garden centres ? are ?dusting sulphurs? (Used to dust leaves to prevent pesticides from attacking the plant). BOTH are sulphur with 5% additives that help free flow and add some additional protection. The yellow contain 5% magnesium carbonate. The green one ? can?t remember.

From Pyro use, both should be quite equivalent, usable, but not great, and will reduce the burn speed by some amount. This should still be useable, but for lift, will require much more BP compare to BP made with pure S.
