Hello Alll,

I didn't see any topics on the subject of whistle rockets so I thought I would fire one up. I have been having pretty good success with salicylate whistle rockets. Takeoffs are very impressive and it appears they can carry up an impressive payload without any problems. The salicylate whistle is also very clean, quite different from the benzoate whistles that are scratchy. I'm using the method to make whistle mix as described on passfire using the following formula:

Potassium perchlorate 76
Sodium Salicylate 23
Red Iron Oxide 1
Mineral Oil 3
Colemans Camping Fuel 25 ml

Nice one, like the power it has! Imagine making a 1lb or 3lb one and the whooossh you get. What pressure did you press at? And did you use bought tooling? Would love to see more of them.

As far as i am aware there is only one and thats the 6lb one. I guess he just scaled it down.

i actually wanted to know the procedure, not which one it was. sorry if i made that unclear.

For this rocket I used whistle rocket tooling from Wolter. I have the whistle rocket kits ranging from 2oz to 8oz and they all work great. For 1lb whistle rockets I have successfully used stinger missle tooling from Greg Boyd. I have had good results pressing these on a 1 ton arbor press by feel and using a tube sleeve. I refuse to build whistle rockets over 1 lb because quite frankly, I don't have the nads to work with that much high energy fuel .

Safety Note for those unfamiliar with whistle mix:- It is far more powerful and impact/friction sensitive than black powder and must never be pounded/rammed with a mallet. A suitable press and blast screen must be used.

Just look at the power on launch. If that blew whilst being loaded, covered in sleeving and hose clips, a foot or two away - Press, blast screen, ear defenders every time.
