If you feel flash is too strong and bp is too weak for breaking crossettes, would it be possible to make a mix of flash and bp to kind of dampen down the power of the flash?

I would think not, as bp has sulphur - surely it would make the mix quite senisitve!

I've heard that granulated whistle is quite effective at breaking small crossettes..

Thats possible as long as you use a perchlorate based flash. Sulfur does make it more sensitive but not 'spontaneous ignite' like it would do to a chlorate mix.

Also using a larger mesh Al would slow it down.

For crossettes 1" in size and under, is standard 70:30 going to break them well or will something a little more powerfull be needed (Perch/MgAl is what i have in mind)?

Just some technical info if needed:

Diameter of crossette: 22mm
Lenght of crossette 30mm
Diameter of cavity: 12mm
Depth of cavity: 10mm + 3mm for the pin ( Note: The cavity is cylindrical)

Thanks for your help

Depends on how much force you are pressing with, what composition, and what kind of tooling.
I have the chinese tooling which has a shorter and wider cavity than wolters crossette tooling, so I believe it takes less to break them.

I tried whistle mix yesterday in a 20 mm tigertail crossette, and it oversplit it.
the composition was finely granulated 70/29 NaBenz + 1 red iron oxide.
EDIT: (Bound with NC)

I rammed these crossettes, and seeing as how you've broken your crossettes with whistle, my own should be shattered well using standard 70:30

70/30 will break that crossette PGF. You can try filling the cavity only a quarter of the way, I've found that to be a pretty good level with flash for cruciform xettes. Whistle also works well but you need a bit more of it and the granulation should be pretty fine. Also, are your xettes pasted or waxed?

They are pasted with 3 turns of gummed tape.

Thanks for the help Cpl. and Pudi

I would use the flash, I've never tried making a xette with a cavity pump so I'm not sure how it behaves, but pasted in might cause a whistle break to jet on smaller xettes.
