Hi Guy's, I think I have a serious problem and wonder if anyone out there has any suggestions for a possible remedy! :(

My problem is, I find myself sitting restlessly in my lounge room bored with T.V. C.D. DVD. P.C. A.M. F.M. Ham Radio when the sudden overwhelming urge comes over me to go into the shed and ignite a small pile of BP or Flash or anything I have been experimenting with just so I can see the Flash & Smell the smoke,
I also find myself burning lengths of Black-Match for no apparent reason..
Another problem is my Lawn looks like dozens of U.F.O's have landed at different times as its covered with little round burn marks, and I think Jim the Mowing man thinks there's definitely something up!!
Even when I'm driving around I find myself making a mental note of where all the Willow Trees are.

Has anyone else out there noticed this strange behaviour? Should I seek Psychiatric help?
It is becoming quite an obsession of late any suggestions will be greatly appreciated....

...Now where's my matches..

Yours Deliriously

Oh no, I think we all have very similar experiences. It is most definatly an addiction. It is very true what Mr. Bacon said "He who hath smelt the smoke, is ne'er again free".

Being at college cuts me off from pyro. I have to pretty much talk about it constantly on forums or pyro chats or what not. I pretty much went through pyro withdrawl. I planned my spring break around making fireworks and tools.

You smelt the smoke now you may ne'er again be free

Just fight the urge to light something, if you can't go on rec.pyro and search for information, that usually keeps me busy for hours, or ready a pyro book. I think i've read Best of AFN III about 20times now.

It's generally known as IDS (Ignition Deficiency Syndrome) , playing with the shell simulator on Passfire has been mentioned to give temporary relief.
Trying to do something very beautiful but very dangerous very safely....

True, I think we've all felt the same at some point, it really is addictive, I still find myself going out and lighting small lengths of Quick Match or Visco sometimes  .

Indeed, for myself and probably most others, its ritual. Whenever I set foot into the shop, I cut a 4 inch length of black match and perfume the place with it. Its a tribute to the Greenman. Similarly, I change the water in my fire buckets on the weekends, religously. To reinforce the automatic "where's the water" response if there were to be a problem. More on that; we have fire drills in my house, the kids get a kick out of it.

Hope to never need the safety nets, and always be captive to the smell.

I have had the same problem, and in all seriousness it was effecting other things in my life. I tried to find other things to do as well as pyro. I have been going to car meets with exotic car owners, trying to focus on school more, etc. Then I got a job for Bay Fireworks so until my first show I don't know how well the other hobbies will hold up :D.

Well, shooting a professional show isn't going to make it any better ! You're sunk... done for... give in to the power of the dark side.

LOL I know I was thinking the same exact thing as I was applying. Right after that I contacted Grucci and they told me I could have a job manufacturing once I turn 21, just have to take their schooling classes. Then the end will be near for me:). I will never see the light of day after that. You always have to look at it in a good way, atleast my 4th of July shows after learning from Grucci will be amazing :D.

Yes, I believe it's called "pyromania" an addiction for the urge to set things on fire. I have to light a banger or something every now and then
To stop myself going crazy! You just can?t help it really. Wow, I picked the right time to study Pyrotechnics. Sometimes, they have to strap me down at displays. :(

Just lighting a fire don't do it for me. Otherwise I would enjoy burning leaves and trash more LOL... My most shameful sign of addiction might be sniffing old fired 3 and 4 inch mortar tubes.

OMG... ever have hot coffee come out your nose ?? I was talking to PainterAK on icq just a moment ago and was telling him about a database program I was setting up for the display operator we get to shoot for... I mention I call it "Pyrotechnic Management System" or PMS... he says " speaking of... you know why they call it PMS ? Because Mad Cow was already taken"... just as I was taking a gulp of coffee. Owwww.
