Here is the link to my first 4" ball shell. Winokur12 with dragon eggs, and Lancaster Gold Glitter. 44 grams of lift under a 340 gram shell.

Congrats!

I really like the stars! It?s a plastic ball shell, isn?t it?! I ask because the break isn?t that symmetrical. So a few layers of pasting would have have improved the burst alot I think!

Anyway, nice first ball shell! And the kid in the video appreciated it, too I guess :D

Yes it was a plastic ball shell. Not my first one, just my first 4" one, all my others have been 3". With plastics, I usually wrap a layer of fiberglass tape around the entire ball, but with this one, I only put a wrap wround the 'equator' and two wraps at 90 degrees. it left rather wide gaps unwrapped.

Yeah my daughter loves fireworks, and she would probably throw a fit if she missed any !

WINOKUR 12 GLITTER

Charcoal Airfloat....................11
Sulfur................................8
Antimony Trisulfide, Chinese needle...5
Dextrin...............................4
Strontium Carbonate...................3

LANCASTER GOLD GLITTER

Meal Powder..........................70
Sodium Oxalate.......................10
Antimony Trisulfide, Chinese needle...8
Aluminum, atom, spher, 120-325 mesh...7

You can substitute appropriate quantity
of KNO3, C, S for the Meal Powder, for
a slower effect. These stars burn very
fast.

I also included a couple Dragons Eggs in the pumped 3/8" Lancaster Gold stars.

I've never tried making a shell but watching that video has made me think maybe it's time to move on to that stage. I was just curious, how do you get the comet to light? Also, can you use just BP as a bursting charge? I don't really want to start messing about with flash or anything like that. And finally what camera did you use? mine is terrible at capturing sound.

In answer to one of your questions, yes, you can use BP as a bursting charge.

When lighting comets, usually the lift charge will light the comet. When I attach comets to the top of the shell for instance though, I run the leader over it just to be sure. I paste over the sides of the comet so only the top lights. I also usually cut a slit or a notch in the leader over the comet to allow better passage of fire. I secure the leader over the comet with some masking tape.

You can see this in the shell farthest to the right. http://img.photobuck...es/P1010046.jpg

Meal on rice hulls is also another option for the break and is one of my favourites. Most of my comets will light from the lift charge alone, but I also run the leader over it for piece of mind ;)

Nice shell by the way Frozentech!
my friend: What's that?

me: It's a fuse.

my friend: Oh.
