I'm looking for a comp that I can dip the ends of visco fuse in so that it can be easily lit by an e-match. Also, it has to be waterproof, so I was thinking I could bind it with acetone? That would also help it to dry quickly. I don't want the comp to contain: Barium salts, flake aluminium, chlorates, or antimony.
I was thinking something along the lines of:
Red gum 10
perc 40
kno3 45
charcoal 10
sulphur 5
aluminium 15
Making it into a slurry with acetone would be ok as I could use the red gum as a binder. Is it going to be easily and reliably lit by an e-match, or is my comp too insensitive? Would binding with acetone make it harder to light? I've noticed that some slurry type mixes when used with a different solvent to water can be hard to light, and my e-matches don't exactly stay lit for long.
Any other suggestions welcome.
A visco prime

when using ematches to light visco i cut the end of the visco at an angle to expose more core, and pop the ematch in about an 1.5" of quickmatch, which is slid over the end of the visco. Tape up the lot.
Never had one fail so far, and no prior preperation needed.

When cutting the visco at an angle and fusing like that you may find under rough handling that the powder falls out the visco and may end up not taking fire. When I use visco in my 6" shell of shells I cut at an angle then dip in BP slurry 75:15:10 +5 dextrin, then dip in just powder to make the serface 'fluffy' That way im sure it would light and the powder cant fall out the visco.

I do much the same as Karl for both Visco and shell fuse, except I use a slurry of BP in NC/acetone ('coz I'm impatient? - shows to do!). I have had one failure, but that was in 3 years worth of material i.e. > probably 1,000 ignitions .
Trying to do something very beautiful but very dangerous very safely....

Bullseye smokeless powder/acetone mix will work.
I wet the powder with enough acetone to cover it, in a shallow lidded jar. After a few hours, the Bullseye will have dissolved into a soft "plastic" layer.
Scoop up a small amount with the visco, smooth onto the end of the fuse.
The acetone bonds the powder to the NC on the outside of some visco and works on non coated fuse, too.
