hi there, im new to this site, didnt know there was any thing like this. good to see there is. any way i recently moved over to making up a small tester batch of flash, used http://www.lab-reagents.com/index.asp for chemicals- hard to find them in the uk, well it was for me. the aluminum is 400 mesh so it says and the potassium perchlorate it technical grade. mixed the 70:30 mix i have read so much about. tested a small amont and there is nothing... so inserted a short amount of visco in to the tiny pile... nothing. can any one help with possible reasons why its not working. many thanks

Welcome but not a great first post, we are not too interested in making flash powders as they are highly dangerous. What are you planning on doing with the powder once you have made it? How much you making at a time?

sorry for the fist post then, but thank you for the welcome. first off i only mixed 5 grams, i know how dangerous the powder is when care is not taken, and even some times when it is. my intention to use it for a report on the top of small rockeys i have made, a small amout in a visco rocket will be first, if i can get the mixture right. so has any one delt with the chemical supplier i used? is there i chance i just didnt get what it said it was?

That supplier is not very good, you will see other posts relating to this. My advice is to searc for safe ways of mixing compositions. How are you mixing the powders at the moment? 5g of flash will do alot of damage so be very careful, if I was you I would not make it. I should think the aluminium is not the proper stuff for flash, thankgod! Its very very hard to get the real aluminium to make it work. Ill be closing this thread soon as we have a thread dedicated to flash compositions.

Your messing with a very dangerous mixture that has taken many lives and caused many injuries!

Yes for flash, but your 400 mesh atomised Al will make fantastic glitter stars, scarily bright flares and brilliant fountains. All the info you need to do this is here on the forum. Good luck :)
