Hi,
I want to make a multi shot cake, but I am not sure how the fuse should be routed to provide ignition to each tube. The tubes will all be small mines, each with three or four stars. these will be ignited from the bottom. (half inch tubes)
Im not sure how to route the fuse, a simple left to right pattern is fine, nothing fancy. Im not sure how the fuse should be routed, as the tubes will be so close together, a fuse could not get between them. I had the idea of making the corner four tubes an inch longer, to act as legs to provide sufficiant space under the cake for the fuses to run about.
Dave K and Karl also suggested that i link them one to the other, by simply drilling two holes right the way through the bottom of each tube and thread a long peice of visco through the entire row. The only problem I can see with this is that each tube will fire off in very rapid succession. The distance for the fuse to travel will only the two wall-thicknesses which would be 6mm. This would mean a tube would fire off every second or so, which is too fast for my effect...
Any diagrams or in-depth explanations as to how i should go about this would be great.

Turn each tube through 90 degrees so that the holes aren't lined up, this is how most Chinese cakes are made.

One way would be to indeed turn so all the holes face the front if you will. Then put successively longer pieces of visco in each, and light it all by quick match.
Or put pieces of black match in each, and run a length of visco along the outside. Cover the entire thing in aluminum tape or foil or something to prevent premature ignition. As the visco burns along, it will light the blackmatch as it gets to it.
If you turn it outward again, and used two holes you could link everything with visco. This would allow for a longer delay.
I don't think running a length of visco through the whole think would work by the way. I would thing that there would still be a gap in the holes all the way down, and everything would go at once. Also the visco shouldn't light by the lift on the side, so it would have 1/2" + 6mm wall thickness burn time before it hit the next tube. Thats about 2 second delay.
