Hey everyone. I am looking for some Titanium and Magnesium Turnings, I plan to use them in aerial shells and mini roman candles. Anyone have some of this?

Are you planning to file them down, i would have thought they would be incredibly hard to get to ignite at turnings, and if anyone knows a uk source of titanium powder i would love to know, the thought of making some lovely silver tails for my rockets...mmm

I second that! Ti is pretty much the only pyro chemical that I have been unable to source, any help would be much appreciated!

They will ignite at turnings. Mainly I want Mg. Gonna experiment making stars with it.

I know where you can get large (50kg) drums of any type/size of magnesium, aluminium, titanium and magnalium powders, and have considered ordering, but decided against it as i only need a couple of kgs at the most. If anyone is into pyro on a big scale, PM me for a link to their website, unless you plan to do some sort of sharing system where we each pay for a portion.

If we all decide on a single type and size of metal powder, and i can guarantee where every part of the drum is going, I would consider ordering as the company is only about 20 miles from my house.

Is there any chance you could give approximate costs for Al, Mg and Ti drums? I may be interested but would obviously need some price info...!

Im in and am flexible, i would take any size or mesh of magnesium. i would also accept magnalium but it would have to be a fine mesh, say upfards of 350. Sounds like a good idea to me. Any one else into this?

Possible conflict of interest, I'm only in need of Ti, however would consider getting some others too...

Its no longer advertised on the site, but I got 100 grams of magnesium powder from hobbychem. I was told they also have a small stock of granulated coarse magnesium too. They have very fine mesh magnalium for sale in thier shop.

I would also be interested in some titanium if there may be a bulk purchase happening. How much do you reckon per Kg, I know its not cheap!

It would depend how fine mesh it was, too fine and all it would do, I believe {Please do correct me if I'm wrong} is force the comp to burn hotter possibly affecting colours etc.?

Most of the metal powders are made to order, so I need everyone to decide on one size, before I can even get a quote on the price. They keep certain popular sizes in stock but I need a better idea of what everyone is looking for first.

I think that we should avoid aluminium for now as buying 50kg of aluminium powder doesnt look good on anyones bank statement for legal reasons...

Oh and I also had a closer look at their site, they also sell ferro titanium.

They sell titanium from 2000 down to 40 microns.

Isnt a barrel of titanium gonna cost a few thousand US dollars. Ive seen 1LB sell for $90 US. I want a size large enough for nice sparks.

I concur, sparks as well as stars and rocket tails would be nice.
From a very brief look most formulae call for between 20-60 mesh, perhaps we could use this as a starting point for discussion?
