anybody need visco safety fuse ?

my mate is in the US at the mo and has found some visco fuse , 50m rolls for the equivelent of ?8 , if anyone wants a roll let me know before sunday night and i will tell him how many to get (i am not selling these for a profit and will only charge the cost of the fuse + P&P when he returns on wednesday)

Your friend is risking more then just being smuggling fuse. It is absolutely illegal to bring Visco into an airplane, and customs will probably not stop at just charging him with smuggling. He could finish in jail for trying to get such fuse into the airplane. Tell him not to be stupid and not to take risks like that.

I already tried to help some fellow forumers but after contacting the right authorities I later found out it was illegal. Not sure if it is illegal for you guys in the UK to receive it but I would find out before going any further.

There is no law stating that it is illegal to purchase Visco fuse in the UK, this is something that suppliers regulate themselves. You will notice on suppliers web sites and even if you contact them, fuse products are supplied to legitimate users only. Basically if you have a good reason for needing fuse, a supplier would deal with you. Suppliers do not want there name tarnished by an individual misusing there product.
I have not checked to see if this area has been covered under the new legislation due to come into effect in Jan 2005.
The issues with bringing fuse items into the country is based of the legality's of transport carriers and the UN clasification of fuse products. There is a lot of paperwork involved hence the reluctance of foreign dealers shipping to the UK.

It's more effort than it's worth. I would rather a 'professional' fuse with a reliable burn rate.

Just got off the phone to Customs and Excise, and the HSE. Soo many numbers, and catchy hold music. All fuses seem to be listed for import under the same number: 3603001000. Visco appears to be:
"GREEN VISCO SAFETY FUSE 3/32" PPVISCO PYROTECHNICS 0105
1.4S
Customs say you DON'T need any special liscense to import this (or any other fuse/cord) I made it clear that I'm a private individual, not a company. They said that a properly labelled package of fuse going through customs would be A O K, even to a home address. So, the HSE say its OK, customs say its OK.......

With all that in mind, I'm going to try and get loads of fuse from abroad, I'd rather buy in bulk and get a better deal. However, I'm not even going to try until I've got everything I need verified by the relevant people/departments etc. I'm going to try and get this in writing which I can then send the supplier and ask for a copy to be put in with the fuse. That way if anyone in customs gets a little worries, all the relevant details will be there for them to quickly verify and authorise/allow the package through.
Well, that's the plan anyway.....
