I wondered if nitrocellulose might not be a problem. Firefox sells it in a solid form that seems to much more economical than buying it premixed as a lacquer but I wondered if there werent non pyro uses for it that would be frowned upon.

I read smokeless power is mostly NC and I have a few cans of it (from when I used to reload ammo) but was a little worried about using it. I saw some posts on another board that talked about some smokeless propellants having nitrogylcerin as an ingrediant and that it could pool out of a composition if you stored it. I can't remember now if its doublebased or singlebased smokeless powders that are the problem but several of the ones I looked up had it as an ingrediant if only in a small percentage.

It would be nice to have some NC lacquer but I've hestitated to order it so far.

Ping pong balls are nitrocellulose. I used six balls dissolved in 250ml acetone, works brilliantly.

I ordered 2 pounds of the solid NC from firefox. I would not recomend useing smokeless powder, some do have nitro in it but there are other additives as well,
I will need to try the pingpong balls now! I would imagine it's a less nitrated form but i doubt that matters

I've seen a few lists of 'watched chemicals' and didn't take much notice as they listed most of the common pyro oxidisers...

Things that stand out from memory include: Gallic acid, a few Lithium salts, Lactose and Dextrose (no idea why but I'm sure they were there), various solvents including MEK, Acetone and DSMO, and Mg powder. I have ordered most of the above and have not received any negative attention for it, whether or not I'm on any lists ; )

Be assured that the records of thouse sales are being kept on file at the supplier, I belive both firefox and skylighter do this. I have allready been visited by scary men but that was for iodine, the local fire marshal knows I make fireworks and let me keep all my supplies. I do take the precaution of not ordering certain chemicals with one order i.e stuff for flash powder because i dont want an order rejected or be thought of one of the morons that only make m-80s to sell to other people. I will never give or sell anything I make

Back on subject, what would happen if you substituted the chlorine in a chlorate with iodine?
