What is the maximum amount (kg) of fireworks that can legally be carried by road in private transport without ADR? I've tried HSE/BPA sites, but can only find confusing government documents.

Can anyone point me to where I can find out (in nice, simple words, please!!)?

Well if it's a private vehicle and you're not transporting them commercially then ADR doesn't apply anyway. But if you take ADR as a guide, then for Shop goods (1.4) you can transport 3000kg (Yes that's 3 Tonnes!) NEQ (Net explosive quantity) before ADR applies. However at the other end of the scale if carrying 1.1 then the LQ (Limited Quantity) is 50kg NEQ. But note if you have just one single 1.1 item in your load however small, then the entire load becomes classed as 1.1 and the 50kg limit applies. For display work it's sometimes worth splitting your load and putting all the 1.1 in a seperate vehicle if possible to avoid comming under ADR! For some bedside reading ADR 2007 can be downloaded here :-

http://www.unece.org...7ContentsE.html

Fireworks are UN No 0333 to 0337
The definitions of what makes 1.1, 1.2 etc. are at Annexe A Chapter 2.2.1.1 (criteria)

I'm about to start an ADR thread for Pro's to discuss this nightmare legislation as I'm sure I'll get flammed for getting something wrong in the above reply :)

If it looks like it's coming towards you, it probably is!

Well looks like I'm confused as well, was down at Shellscape today and they reckon the LQ for 1.1 is 5 kg not 50 kg so I'm going to have to read it again. Anyway for normal consumer shop bought fireworks as far as I know there is effectivly no limit as to what you can carry in a private car. It's advisable to be a bit sensible about it though!

Always best to be sensible.

Still If it means home made can only be used on site while the limit of 5KG applies to consumer fireworks.
