Im currently in the business of making a visco machine. That will put an end to my homemade black match!

I accidentally made several batches of BP where I used 15% sulfur and 10% charcoal, and the black match I made with it burns ok, not the greatest but its usable. I use the method of pulling the BP coated string through a hole to remove excess. My next match with proper BP will most likely burn better and be more suitable for quickmatch.

It would appear that the film canister method works very well indeed, no soaking in KNO3 required.

Have to say that although Visco is useful stuff, it's no substitute for black match. They are used for different things.

eg, to set off all the cases in a set piece or in lancework within 1/10 of a second you will need piped match - there's no visco that will go that fast!
