I just made a terrifying discovery,I was just sick of milling NaClO3 whith my mortar and pestle and made something incredible :I washed my coffe grinder very well and filled half of it whith NaClO3 and put it in my blasting chamber and turned it on.I made like 500 g of NaClO3 powder. After al that i came to a conclusion:SODIUM CLORATE is not sensitive to shock alone(not mixed whith other components).Whit all of that clorate I made NaClO3/Sdium benzonate whistle mix.

Another thing I wanted to know is if I can use NaClO3/Sodium benzonat whistle mix to launch shells.I tried to launch a peace of paper out of a paper tube(the tube had a bentonite clay end) whith a knife edge of whistle mix and it made BOOOM.Will it make the same whith shells?

NO! don`t even THINK of using whistle mix as a lifting charge! EVER!

Try that on a Shell scale and it`s a Hospital job! (and Psychiatric if you survive)

Hi TZa,
no oxidiser is sensitive by its self, sodium chlorate is not used or suitable in pyro due to its hydroscopic nature, and do not use whistle to launch your shells because you will destroy your morter at best,at worst you may harm yourself.Whistle is used for rockets when pressed, screeching fireworks and as a break booster for shells.i hope that you used the diaper method to mix it because it is sensitive stuff  Why don;t you use b.p to launch your shells?
Vince.

Firstly, dont use chlorate whistle formula. Whistle is often called 'white flash' this is due to its power, it can easily blow tubes up! There is a type of hybrid lift called Benzolift, its BP mixed with a percentage of whistle, this is used to lift shells but not on the commercial market. Also if you use it you should be working more on making your BP more capable of lifting, benzolift used to lift shells is a shortcut. It can be used to burst shells with minimal problems, used when bp does not have the power to burst a small shell and you dont want to use flash.

In conclusion dont use Chlorate whislte, I must stress this!

OK.Got the idea. But BP made whith sodium clorate instead of KNO3 could be used for lifting charge?

This is how it burns:

PS:excuse that other guy,I was the one whith the camera.

It wont be BP if its using Sodium Chlorate. Whats wrong with using Potassium nitrate, it has seemed to work fine for thousands of years?! I bet he got a nice burn.

No he didn't.He was just covered in smoke  .I told him to use a fuse but he didn't listen,so he used a little stick to ignite it and got a little more ''smoked'' then usual

Tza Whistle Mix will make an excellent bursting charge.

For lifting it is useless unless you combine it with Black Powder.

Frankly I'm not a fan of benzolift anyway so it's not important to me...

On another note, don't let your friends near fireworks.

They sound crazy...

That and another guy are my team mates in chemestry, pyrotechnics san rocketry. He just considered a waste of fuse to ignite that powder.

So if I mix that whistle mix whith BP it will be good for lifting charge? Can you please give me a formula by which to mix the them if I have pine chacoal BP.

He wont be thinking that when hes missing a few fingers

Whats wrong with bp for a lift charge?, if you use a mix of whistle and bp you run the risk or destroying your mortar and the shell.

I can't see keeping safer a waste of fuse. Rather than "wasting" visco or something, I'd just use blackmatch as it costs almost nothing to make...

I think the thing that made me cringe most when I saw it was the likelyhood of his hair catching fire or losing his eyesight.

burns and lung damage were secondary.

hi i believe its been used to some success in composite rocket motors, but i guess thats branching away from "normal" pyro?
