right, im pretty new at this stuff so i wonder if anybody knows how to blast something out of a cardboard mortar ( 14 inches high ) which will then explode (e.g a large fire cracker) so basically something that i could put at the bottom of the mortar and after the object hits the base, the stuff on the bottom explodes and launches the object into the air

edit: im lookin for a way to blast a firecracker into mid-air so it explodes in mid air

mmmm not sure you are on the right forum here. This forum is about pyrotechnics, not about what sounds like a weapon. If this is not the intended use for your idea then it is a bloody good way to have a very very serious injury.
Phew that was close.

Same here...What you described is a military device know as a "mortar"( ),which is basically a tube with a pin at the bottom. When the shell is inserted it slides down the tube and the Percussion cap(on the shell) hits the pin which ignites the lift charge, launching the shell, but i cant see what this has got to do with pyro ????

Other than an air b*mb, have a look for burst disk air cannons. I think it's unlikely someone with so little experience will manage to safely pull off a pyrotechnic solution. A trebuchet is good too.

The reason your getting bs responses is because you have so much work ahead of you nobody knows where to start or if you would have done a little more research people would care to give you more information. It's more complicated then blasting a firecracker out of a tube and you probably won't be willing to do all the work but if you are some good things to google would be "how to make firework shells" or "salute shells".

This was on page two for my forum settings - so sorry if this is considered a bump!

I think this man is referring to "double sound crackers" which were banned in China ten years ago, but are still legal in India.

Essentially, the bottom charge is a powerful black powder, with a weight somewhere near the bottom-middle of the device.

This weight helps the explosion lift the second charge chamber of the tube into the air.

When a fuse reaches the second chamber, the device explodes around 20-50 feet up.

They're often used to suprise people because it gains there attention to one place, then very quickly makes a bang in another.

Sounds dangerous to say the least...

Can anyone also confirm the legal status of air ЬọмЬs and firecrackers in the UK please?

It is. And they were banned in China.

Imagine that.

Both banned i think.
Still want some firecrackers though as they are bit of fun. Note: I would use them responsibly and not go around t3rr0rising people.
A few years ago the streets on bonfire night used to be red with all the paper left over.
Now all your allowed to do is drop them in a metal barrel on wheels.
The government in this country seems to ban everything that is great.
