I've started to make some hemis using the method here:http://www.pyroguide.com/index.php?title=Shell_hemisphere
It seems to be working OK, just need more practice cutting in half evenly and straight.
If I am going to use 1/4" timefuse on 3" paper shells, what is the best way to attach it? Should I glue the fuse right into the hemi, or maybe roll a small paper tube, glue that in place and then glue in the fuse?

Anyone???

There's usually no need to use a tube - just drill a hole in the hemi and glue the time fuse in place with good quality wood glue. This seems to hold the fuse perfectly well and the pasting around it as you finish the shell makes the joint strong enough.

Optionally, a bead of hot-melt on the inside of the joint will help seal it and a few turns of glue-soaked string wrapped around the timefuse on the outside of the shell (after pasting) will reinforce it against hard lifts.

Joined passfire recently.
Must recommend it.
For the amount of useful info that the site contains, I think the membership fee is extremely cheap.

The big question to me is: Where did KarlosH get those marvelous tools?
If you make it bulletproof they'll just make a bigger bullet.
If you make it waterproof they'll just make a deeper ocean.
If you make it foolproof... They'll just find 'emselves a redneck!

I donīt understand. Everything is in the previus pictures. I have only one tool, gypsum mould. My homemade method imitate japanese press method, bud I pasting every layer severally. Paper wheels hawe 8 x cut-in. You must work accurate. Dextrin is suitable for this, I tryed warious glues, but dextrine is the best for me. I read, that better are air-ventilation hemispheres, than plastic. This method is a very very time-consumer. Uf. I hawe only two free days, when I can make fire-hobby. (Cry). I working far way from my home.

You made the mold yourself? I salute you!

Gypsum mold is easy to make. You must have this: http://img34.picoodl...mmm_5f297dc.jpg You can cut optimal size of aluminum wheel, for optimal hemispheres. http://img33.picoodl...mfm_2364486.jpg

The flower shape isnt actually that importaint guys.

Its basically just a circle with a radius just over 1/4 of the circumferance of the shell your making (Or a diamiter just over 1/2 the circumferance). It then needs just less than 3.142 tenths removing from its mass in a petal configuration if wanting the edges to overlap or just over 3.142 if wanting them to clear each other and rely on the next layer to actually secure the last one.

Honestly it sounds complicated but its not just use ure imagination as to how it works.........
