i have a "bit" a few grams no real reason i think i just like collecting these things!,anyway somthing i read a while back,said it was used to "coat" magnesium to make it less reactive does anybody know the process?

I'd agree most of the way, certainly 100% for beginners. It does have a few applications but they are pretty advanced for most to go around piss arseing about with.
As for pyro with Chromium, it's a bit dodge. It's not too much of a problem unless you use huge amounts!
Lead Chromate (what a compound!)

I cant find for love nor money any "how to" about the process of treating Mg with Pot Dichromate. Could someone who has done this procedure please enlighten me as to how its done please.

Reviving an old thread here but......
I cant find for love nor money any "how to" about the process of treating Mg with Pot Dichromate. Could someone who has done this procedure please enlighten me as to how its done please.
i havn't done it before but this link is a book by Kosanke, Sturman and shimizu, page 20 hits on coating mg with k dichromate
