I got the Lidle Catalogue today, to be honest Black Nebula looks a bit rubbish- lots of titchy fountains, some titchy rockets and a few titchy roman candles. The £4.99 one looks better value. If you want a few cakes some of the individual £1.99-£3.99 ones from brands like Men shun and Black Cat are MUCH better than those you would find in a selection box.

Also some of Lidl's "RRPs" are farcical. No way is Rainbow Storm ever a £23 piece.

no way are gold medal rockets £35! last year they said there were meant to be £10.
any other suggestions for selection boxes then - round between £15-£25

cheers,
Dec

my suggestion is to buy a cheap box, around £5, and spend the rest on small individual cakes and barrages- they are much better. Men Shuns £1.99 and £2.99 range is good, as are black cats £3.99 -£4.99 . TNT a good fountain for £4.99, Fireworks International has some great stuff under £10. Pretty much any fireworks shop should have at least something at this price range.
OK, interest in fireworks to be resumed in the spring. It usually is. ;)

rainbow storm is a lot smaller this year, so the gap in the middle is small too. the tubes are still same size.

I just got the Cosmos cake from my local Lidl for £4.99. Feels pretty heavy not light so that is a good sign, also might go back for the Haylets Comet to.

I had the Hayleys Comet last year, and have got it this year too.
The description on the back is:

25 shot cake ejecting 25 silver comet tail to a king crackle burst and silver comet tail to a silver strobe burst.
the tubes are 30mm. it feels really heavy too.
i cant remember exactly what it did last year, but it was good. nice bursts. quite loud too.
however comparing it to the cosmos cake, (bearing in mind size and price), i think cosmos is better to be honest.
hayleys comet is good though, i would recommend it.

After alot of lurking and taking in your comments I went and picked up a couple of Cosmos and a Hayleys coment to add to my collection (Mostly GNF Plannet stuff and Dancing Red Devil BOGOFS from Latifs for filler with panda low noise for the younger ones) I also picked up some of there larger rockets.
The weight compared to the Plannet cakes of similar size was significantly more tho, is that a bad sign?

Fingers crossed they should be good, ill report back my thoughts. :D

No, that is not a bad sign. Its not necessarily a GOOD sign, but there is no reason to think its a bad sign.

Making a cake heavier isn't part of window dressing- what would be the point? Customers don't feel how heavy a cake is until AFTER they buy it.

What did you get from Planet?

I tend to ask to feel it first as I assumed weight = good, but as I am learning more about them I now know its just clay

As for the planet stuff, Some Ammo Store Flashing Thunders. A Tempest cake, some smaller cakes like cyber space etc and some plutonicks but they are another manufacturer.
I also picked up a titanium salute from cube and some candles on bogof as filler, I am also tempted to get an Ash's Bo-mb as they are supposed to be good.

Yeah, it is- a good mixed-effetc cake, although there might not be many left around now as its gone next year due to new regs (or so I was told by the staff at Epic.)
