Ball Mills

Ok, the way in which I got sparks is unlikely to be repeated in a mill, but, better safe than sorry. Brass, lead or ceramic is far less likely to spark than any steel.
But then again sparks are not a problem if you are milling anything other than a composition, i.e. BP. If you have a clean and air tight milling jar no adverse effects are going to result from spark, just so long as you are not milling bp.

I've been trying to find a motor for way to long now - just before I got into pyro I threw away an old machine machine which would have been perfect, grr I suck - the only scrap yard I know that even sells stuff to the public anymore is in Glossop and I hardly ever go there, maybe next time I'm there I will find one. Be good if there was somebody on the forum *hint hint* who had a motor to sell.
Regards,
Drew
Are you sure you are looking in the right place?

And this guy jjhordern (ebay) sells very nice motors, just needs a cap to run single phase!! Also huge torque as its a worm gear, i have two of them and they are very very tidy motors!! Run at 83rpm as it is.
One is being used on a ball mill as i type, he has more of them so keep your eyes peeled my first one i got was ?7.50

I'm an expert, my dad is but I hardly get to speak to him - what type of motor would I need that I don't have to do anything to, just link up to a plug and plug it into the mains?
Drew
Single phase motor, to be honest its easy to turn 3 phase motor into a single if it has the delta configuration for the windings. Search on google for instructions or on this forum as im sure i have seen it mentioned here.

don't forget, it needs to be 220-240V or in between, don't wire up a 12V motor to the mains!I'm an expert, my dad is but I hardly get to speak to him - what type of motor would I need that I don't have to do anything to, just link up to a plug and plug it into the mains?

you problably knew it already, just making sure.

316 might be considered non-sparking, but I just made some sparkes with some. It cannot be that non-sparking. You can make sparkes with brass if you smack it hard enough.

I would argue that fact with ceramic, even more so if it's of questionable grade or contaminated with other comps or metal powders. Brass should not be used with some chemicals because of it's copper content as well.
In some tests I have done by dropping 404 stainless steel balls onto each other have not yeilded a spark. Take it to a belt sander and I would bet you could proby get even lead to generate particals hot enough to cause ignition.
