is flash powder on its own toxic in any way to people?

Not what you could call toxic, but it is very dangerous.

"Harmful if swallowed, inhaled or absorbed through the skin. Very destructive of mucous membranes. May produce fatal aplastic anaemia and other blood disorders. Eye and respiratory irritant. May cause allergic skin reaction." quote from MSDS for Potassium Perchlorate.

Mucous membranes by the way, are things like eyes, mouth, healing skin etc.

The aluminium could cause all sorts of side effects as well.

Basically the 70% Perchlorate in flash is just like handling pure Perchlorate, will not just bleach clothing but will burn through clothing (even when dry), the same goes for skin. It is not nice stuff.

Aluminum powder has been known to cause a number of diseases as of recently (mostly brain disorders or dysfunctions) as well based upon a health study of those working at paint plants which carried aluminum powder.

there is Nothing used in Pyro chem that is good for you! with the exception of Sugar perhaps but even then, unless it`s Pharma or Food grade, don`t bother!

treat Everything as Toxic without exception, and handle as it were a deadly Poison (most are anyway).

bare minimum Goggles, Gloves (latex or Nitrile disposables are fine), and a good dust mask.
don`t even Bother Looking at what is "Safe" to eat or touch, treat ALL as if it Poison.

trust me, you`ll live longer

edited to add: as for the explosive power of the mix, listen to the guys here! they know Much more than me in that area, but I will say that half a gram contained will easily take a finger off!
