As its now close to the "official" buying season its seems like a relevant question- when do you buy your stuff? Do you plan in advance, or just pick up bits that take your fancy. Both methods have their merits - planning can help with structure, but I've found that anything too well planned often ends with disappointment- and its good to be spontaneous!

Secondly, what kind of budget do you work to? Does anyone here go for the biggest item? I do- although I do get a nice discount usually.
OK, interest in fireworks to be resumed in the spring. It usually is. ;)

i buy as soon as they come out! and spend about £1000, well i used to until i got a mortgage! :( last year not a bean, this year ive saved up a bit ;) and i'd say that i will visit about ten shops and build a selection up i do have a weakness for big rockets and at twenty pounds upwards you can gobble up some cash!(i like to fire ten at a time from two racks) the biggest firework i've had was a cake called "showtime" about £140?

Having only a 20m (max) long garden I try to buy not too big cat 3 stuff (there are trees at the end of the garden so roman candles and rockets are... fun).

I planned it and bought from fireworks emporium during their "15% extra free" period and will probably be collecting them tomorrow. Spent just over £100 and got £15 worth free.

Sounds like a lot of Bright Star stuff and a lot of noise makers.

I had the flashing thunder a couple of years ago and it was great, certainly outdid the neighbours.

I *should* be picking mine up later today so I'll try and get some pictures.

Flashing Thunder will be gone by next year, as will all flashpowder bangs.

My bonfire Display, actually now for November 10th (I'm free bonfire weekend, see displays board... ) is:

2x Screaming Spiders
Moving Target
Inferno Sound/Diablo (19 shots each)
4x Golden Coconuts
"Brother Choice" (4 pack)
2 King Rockets
Dynamite
2x Wild Horses + 2x Tigers Revenge
OK, interest in fireworks to be resumed in the spring. It usually is. ;)

I wait until the last minute this time of year. Recently i've been steering away from the smaller items and just staying with the larger break pieces. If I do buy small things they are usually fountains, comets, pearl crossettes and the screaming/whistling items to mix in with or provide low-level coverage in a finale. If it's too cold this NYE, I will probably just do a finale segment at midnight and maybe hand light a few things up to that time and after. As far as what I spend, that usually depends. I've been known to throw down $3,000 US or more, but average is 1500 usually.
