Is there any wisdom about firing systems using 25pin D connectors (PC parallel plugs)? Are there wiring standards?Pin allocations? Do commercial systems have ready made firing boards?

Is there any chat? Do they work? Has anyone any experiences, good or bad.

I really can't afford a computer system (fireone et al) but miles of bell wire offends me too!

Keep mannequins and watermelons away from fireworks..they always get hurt..

MLE Firebywire is a very nice system, I have 2 sequencers and they perform very well. I have been designing my november show for the last 2 months using the software from Mat. Its not too expensive and a very very nice bit of kit to own!

I used 25 way D's for a while, and they're OK as long as a) You buy good ones B) use the really heavy duty diecast backshells with the clamp thingy (the normal screwjacks aren't up to it) and c) figure out some covers so that mud doesn't get into the sockets.
Trying to do something very beautiful but very dangerous very safely....

What happened to b.) ???

You could get IP68/IP67 rated connectors and then you can wash them out with a hose or power wash if you want.

Or if your really rich and paranoid about damage/mud go for MIL-SPEC connectors and change out the D connectors!

Think the B flew out the window in search of something to pollinate  - or does "B)" = some stupid smiley??? anyway that was meant to be the comment on the backshells. I did find some supposedly IP65 rated types, but they were let down by the backshells.
