Dark grey (ish). It's the wetting or dampening process that turns it black. Also coating the grains in graphite blackens it...Forgot what the process is called ?

please help me!
i try to make black powder..i premilled the kno3 for 4hours and the charcoal for 2 hours until it make powder..now i grind together the chemicals in the wieght of 500gr..The ratio is 375kno3-75c-50s..but i make a test after 1 hour grinding the chemicals and it is slow burning BP..why?also it isn't gray but black..

i have rock tumbler not ball mill

Pipipi have some faith in your work! Anyway we cannot see your product so we here in the UK are only guessing.

Assuming that you weighed correctly the ingredients for the mix the milled product should be fine. Take a small portion and test it, carefully and with a match on a very long stick for the first time. Your first test should be no more than 0.1 gram batch, tested at a distance from anything flammable and outside the house.

When you are confident with 0.1 g batches you can try to burn a bigger batch.

BP is always a very dark shade of grey never truly black! What sort of grey do you have?

dosen't that still leave 300g? still to much for a tumbler ,100 g!!!!! whats the media your using anyway?

i use lead balls.. 4 balls 1/2" and other is smaller.

We need more info.Whats the ID of your milling jar...Am I reading this wrong. You say you use 4 1/2 balls in the jar alone, or do you have smaller ones in there aswell ? I'm sure they all have to be the same size (could be wrong on that)

yes i use 4 1/2 balls also smaller and the all grinding media aren't the same size.this is wrong??
the ID is about 4"(105mm)

sorry still confused, what does 4 1/2 balls mean? you have only four balls in your mill!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ho! sorry, what about a pic? "a picture paints a thousand words you know" anyway sounds like a media problem they could be to small did you cast them yourself?
