What volume is the jar in liters? If it's around 1.3 try using 1/2" (12.7mm) to 3/4" (19.5mm) meadia alone, not 4 balls BTW

I think this has bee said before...Take your green-meal and fill the jar 1/4 the way. Now remove the powder and fill the jar 1/2 way with your media, then pour your green-meal back in the jar and start the mill running

I think they ship abroad. order a 1.3Lt jar and some 20mm Ceramic balls ( their 20mm Cylpebs are great BTW) and as long as you have an efficient mill your set .

I've read that when hit together with alot of force they can spark, BUT you will never experience the forces need to make them spark inside a ballmill. You'll be fine, although lead is the better option due to it's density, ceramic will still do the job.

hi, cast a bit of lead today about 120 pieces! the mould was a simple affair, a split plank with 20mm holes, the whole lot then screwed down to another plank underneath so i can cast eleven pieces at a time, on picture two the "lead shapes" on the right of the picture have just come out off the mill after grinding up a bit of bp :)

When you light a small pile (1-2 grams) does it burn slowly or go whooooossshhh ? If the latter is right then you've got good BP.If so you can granulate it and you've got lift, burst etc ....What process did you use to make your BP ?

That's an alright black powder for most uses. I'm not certian if that'd work for lift unless you have a strong shell and there is very little room in between the shell and the mortar for gasses to escape. Even if there was a lot of space I'm sure it'd still work. Black powder burns much faster in an enclosed space.

Granulating Black powder will make it burn faster. This is because it allows the fire to spread through the gaps between the grains almost instantly, setting every surface of all the grains on fire at once. Obviously, the surface area is then huge, and so it burns faster.

If you ram BP into a tube, then measure the length of BP rammed (a few cm is enough) and time how long it takes to burn you can figure out the burnrate per second. One centimeter of more a second is perfectly usable, though with finely tuned ingredients and sufficient milling the speed can be faster than that.
