We live in the "video" age- videos of anything can be taken and uploaded, or burnt to DVD very very easily. Its good to see that fireworks retailers are using this, too. I know a few shops who have video footage of their entire range, and put it on You Tube. Also in-store DVDs are a great idea.

I think that a potential problem is when some companies fire several units at once, and don't make it clear. Naughty naughty! There was a Brothers demo DVD last year which was ace- but everything was fired in pairs. This year its good to see that they fire as single units.

The clip above is from that DVD- in fairness Epic Fireworks DO reply on that You Tube, saying it is two units. Remember too that Epics prices don't include VAT (they are trade) so its about £32, not £27. To get that exact effect would therefore cost you £64.

The other problem is that some effects, most notably golds, don't show up on video well.

i think youv,e got to fire a few units at once to get the wow factor at the end of the show,and talking about hercules i'll get back to you on that one,just bought two from epic at batley nice place but there was a que of "connoisseurs" with trolleys packed high! it was a site to see,only wished id found it years ago.

nice one! i look forward to hearing what you thought about hercules.... i was going to have hercules myself this year but decided against the drive up to epic fireworks as i live in bristol. and i was not going to pay full rrp after seeing them at that price also the selection pack i wanted was sold out, i might go next year it is a whopper drive though! we really need a large trade wholesaler like epic for all us that dont live in the north of the country. im sure there would be a lot of money to be made!

I have actually had this firework and I've got it again. The video isn't TWO Hercules being fired together but THREE, despite what the guy from Epic wants to say to the contrary. It is a shame that they fire so many together, making people think it's better than it actually is - but as David pointed out, it is the age of the DVD

I think you are correct, well spotted. Most of the units from that demo were fired in pairs.

At the recent SP demo night (which was very good) they were firing things in multiples- which is a good idea, because you get the effect better. However, the DJ kept saying " All this for just a fiver " (£5 being the RRP of one unit) etc ... I think this was just a breakdown in communications, but never the less it might have some people disappointed. IE people buy one light it and realise it doesn't look as good as at the demo night.

To an enthusiast at a demo it is obvious how many units are being fired, but to the public, probably much less obvious. Most people when they see a firework going off (or three) will assume that it is just one. I know from my own displays when a I let off several togther for a finale, most people assumed it was just one. "Can I see that last firework you lit" etc.

That being said, I just wish they wouldn't fire anything together, if I want to watch a video to make up my mind about a purchase, I'd rather see the said firework for what it is. I can make up my own mind if I should be firing more than one at a time.

But at the end of the day, they're in the business to make money so they'll use the odd marketing trick as and when they can- still doesn't make it right though ;-)

Whilst I fully agree with your points, I feel its important to make something clear here:

This video clip is from a Brothers demo night, fired by Brothers and put on DVD by Brothers. Epic didn't actually have anything to do with the firing of this demo night. All Epic have done is taken the clip from the DVD and put it on You Tube. I assume when Epic replied and said it was 2 units it was simply an honest mistake.

I've seen the full DVD- most units were fired in pairs, thats why I assumed this was a pair of Hercules too.


Although............ This does raise another point:

Demo footage from Fireworks Companies is a bit like catalogue descriptions- a lot of fireworks retailers use it directly. I know a lot of the Men Shun clips- still on several websites- are now out of date. Put another way- the Men shun firework you buy will not be the same as the Men Shun firework in the video.

Gigantic Crab!!! uses the video reviews from UKFR, where only one firework is ever fired.
Gigantic Crab!!! recalls that video from trade demos such as Black Cat where multiples are fired, are not included in the review section, and the fact that they are fired in multiples is clearly mentioned.

True- thats a very good site for videos. However, some of them arn't up to date, as some fireworks seem to be changed by the manufacturer every year. EG Lake of Sapphires, most Golden Lion stuff gets changed a round a bit ever year, and a lot of the old Millenium stuff changed a bit when they went TNT.

In fact, I think most of the videos on there- certainly the ones added before this season, are flashpowder fireworks that will be all gone for good, or changed significantly, from next April.

Still, its great fun watching all the clips!

I prefer to rely on fireworks emporium own videos since they fire in singles, they only fire rockets and wheels in multiples since it's easy to tell how many are being used.

yeah, four being fired! great, not to hard to replicate in one's back garden! where pyros aren't we? ive got four they where only about a fiver a piece,nice! as for the videos it seem's to be working for epic, they where open at 6am this morning with lots "sold out" as i was standing there i saw three grands worth go out in twenty mins! ive gone for all "brothers" this year
