But why doesnt water come flying out of the bucket? Is it because it does but the jumping bucket catches it again?

Hmmmmm.....not sure. Maybe the force of the 'bang' is absorbed by the mass of the water and dissipated 'evenly' rather than in one single upward vector ie. no 'spalsh'.

Over to some thermodynamics expert?

watch it frame by frame and then you will know if it is throwing water out then "catching" it

here is what i think, maby when the maroon is going off the water is being pushed equaly in all directions and creating a suction kinda like a plunger upwords. I honestly dont know but could be a possability. makes sence.

speaking of maroons...i made a pretty big flash powder maroon today, only thing is i got no where to light it!

i may 'hoy' it over my neighbours garden and use a remote control to fire it, just gota figure out how i would do this. infact i got a pretty crap, but safe idea.

I dont think it is catching it as such. The blast would be sent all directions right. Well, upwards would be the easiest because everywhere else it hits something which absorbs some of the energy. The sides wouldnt cause a vertical motion, just horizontal. Now going downwards, assuming the blast distrabuted the energy equally in all directions, there would be less force to push it up as it would have had to travel to the bottom of the bucket so energy would be used in pushing the water and then actually hitting the bottom. Although there would be gravity restricting the movement of water upwards, I think it would have had to take more energy to push the water downwards as there would be greater pressur near the bottom so it would have futher restricted the transfer of energy to the other water particals because the shockwave would increase the pressure. When it hits the bottom, this would absorb some and only then would it invert and the energy be redirected upwards. This would have used up energy and also there is energy being used as the shockwave moves back up pushing the water up even more but the bucket down because it would have to catch up with the water traveling upwards to cartch it....basicly Also, due to the pressure in the bottom being higher and it being lower at the top, the osmosis (spelling?) balance would have been upset and therefore the higher concentration of water rushing upwards to fill the area of low pressure would also act a force upon the bucket downwards and also push the water up. . If you dont have a clue what I am saying, just take my word for it-its easier for the shockwave to move up than down...I think

Pyromaster have u made any remote fired pyro before? i might right a tutorial on it as its something i know a bit about (not sure quite how usefull, but still) i might also include electronic timers and sequencers. any one be interested in reading sumthing about this area?

yes, i would be very interested in the remote control, wireless type. lol i made some contraption tonight which enabled me to detonate the big maroon from my bedroom:). i used a servo from an electric aeroplane...it worked very well but was a b*st*rd to carry and set up, since i realy didnt like putting the nichrome wire through the alrady visco fused device which had the power to blind me,take my face off and blow my hand off...anyway, id love a description of a timed,seequenced and remote detonated(wireless) setup. thanks

Hey Stuart, I hope you have cooled off after all that heavy brainwork.

The reason the bucket bounces is simple. It's like a rubber ball bouncing. The downward pressure distorts the bottom of the bucket which bulges downwards then snaps back into place.

How sensible to upload your vids as zip files. First time I have seen this done.

I still think remote firing using a powerful laser is the best bet. Anyone know how to build one?

I think zipping the videos makes them a bit bigger actually . Must be the space taken up by the compression algorithum source?

stuart, zipping files such as pictures videos and music doesnt really do much and might as you say even make the files bigger. I'm pretty busy with "real" work at the moment but i will add the tut to my list of projects lol. i might just quickly put some circuit designs in a zip in the mean time, i have made timers smaller than match boxes that gan give u delays from a few seconds upto a couple of minutes and they are cheap enough to blow up.
