Hello all, it’s been a while since my last post but I thought this might interest the members. And given the spectrum and depth of knowledge on this forum I wondered in anyone might be able to help this chap.

I came across this a few weeks before Christmas and was intrigued the; I’m positively puzzled now the site has been updated. He’s posted some images of a warning sign (bright as a new button) that suggest the site is an explosives magazine/store.

Can any members could throw any light on this and given the current state of paranoia over our hobby and the blinkered paranoid view of all things of this nature do they find it as odd as I. With that in mind as so many civil liberties caught in the resulting cross-fire in the so-called war against terror. I’m I alone finding it a little difficult to swallow that the MoD would store so much as penny-banger let alone military explosives in what amounts to an unguarded shed in the corner of a field.

Not sure what you expect to find. There are hundreds of explosive storages around the country and I’ll be surprise if most of them are of known purpose. It could be that it is a certified storage but it does not contain anything at the moment. It could be something designed to hold weapons at time of war, and it could be a private storage with cameras handing about the blast door and wired strait to the police.

There is some strange assumption that ALL explosive storages are manned. Many of them use remote security that is just as effective.

Would not lose any sleep over this one… But if he really wants, he can call the HSE and see the certificates of the site. Not sure he will get them – but they might be willing to point him to the owners.

The new sign refers to an old Act! Storage is now to MSER! However do remember that Britain -like other countries- has a contingency plan for several diversions from the normal order of peacetime life. The current ones will be kept secret!

There is a book out at the moment called "Secret State" all about (the declassified bits of) this.

When the long range radar picks something up there is a procedure to identify things and take appropriate action. It is now public knowledge that there was an underground bunker in Corsham where a few government members would regroup to continue the civil government in case of nuclear war. This place is now closed. If you look around there are lots of structures relating to the civil and military functions of the cold war. Every county had a redoubt from where civil government could continue. Several of these have come up for sale over the last 10 years as cutting edge military needs change and defence budget cuts have to be made.

When I used to work on MOD computer systems (about 20 years ago!), I found myself in lots of interesting underground complexes - some tucked away in the middle of surburban streets. Usually had to bring your British Passport and were followed around by an armed soldier - did wonders for the concentration.

Also worked in Woolwich Arsenal (long after it's heyday) but they still catalogued chemicals and munitions.

I could tell you more, but then I'd have to kill you! Lol...
