Here are some vids of my first 3" shell and a 3" star mine.

Good work! Did you have two types of stars in the shell? It looked like there were glitters and charcoal streamers in there. The timing looked fine.

Try pasting 3 or 4 layers of kraft over the plastic or a few wraps of fibreglass packing tape - it does improve the break. I find that my plastic shells tear apart around the seam when they burst - the joint made with plumbers solvent cement is stonger than the shell case itself. 5g or so of granulated hot whistle sprinkled in will also do wonders :)

The mine was impressive - maybe try a slightly faster star (or one with finer charcoal) for less fallout.

Made a small 1" plastic ball shell.
Pulverone break.

Not all the stars lit as you can see, i think ill have to prime them again and make sure their completely covered.

Very Good

How big are the stars in this shell, what formula are they, what method did you use to make them and what size are they?

Digger
Phew that was close.

Both had glitter and chrys #6 in them. Ill try the tape and some flash/whistle in there next time.

i would love to get some input from all the pyro's out there on my shells and rockets and such. i've only been doing pyrotechnics for about 8 months, but i'm getting the hang of it. please note that everything i make is made souly from black powder ingredients. i have no access to metal powders or perchlorates, so with that in mind, i think i've done pretty well. bp lift, bp break, bp rocket fuel, bp stars...

my latest aerial shell 2" chrysthanthemum 6:

My latest rocket with report header:

My petrol fuelled flamethrower:

Nice shells PGF. What silver streamer formula were you trying?

I was using this one, was a bit dissappointed to be honest, I was expecting more of a long tail though

Potassium nitrate..........................55
Aluminum (Bright flake).................15
Boric acid......................................2
Fine charcoal.................................10
(bound with gelatine)

Too bad about the tail. I guess I won't try that one as a streamer star. I haven't made any silver streamers yet. I did mix up some of that silver cascade you have on APC. I still have to step prime, but burn rate on 3/8" to 1/2" stars looks good for 3" shells.
