I have been trying all sorts of blue formulae and variations thereof. I have not tried any of the older formula with paris green, nor have I tried any formulae with copper oxychloride as I don't have any (yet). But I have tried a number of AP formula and been underwhelmed with them, the copper benz / AP formula was respectable though.
Most of the perc based blues that I have tried have been very similar in colour saturation, I do have one that is starting to show some promise. The most interesting formula that I have been working on is a chlorate blue with copper benz, copper carbonate a heavy dose of parlon. This seems to work a little differently by producing a hard core that does not disintegrate and allows the escaping gas to burn with a very deep blue, but this formula needs some more work before it is perfected because if the core lights then an orange flame is produced.
Is it possible for this to be pressed into a tube, similar to how a smoke device is produced, leaving a length of tubing empty after the star is pressed.
The gasses are given off the comp and ignite at the open end of the tube, rather than igniting the comp its self? Just a thought, it would probably just blow out in the air though.
