Analysis on ports

Beihai port

There were 1600 TEU (20 GP) fireworks containers had been exported from here in 2007. And this year there are more abandant fireworks containers are expected to export from this port since Sanshui port and Nansha port have been closed. But because the limit of transportation capacity of Beihai port, it seems not easy to suck in so much fireworks containers.

Current Transportation Capacity: 200-500 containers (40GP) can be transported every week (Including all kinds of containers, not only fireworks containers). Because only barges can go into the Beihai port, so the containers from Beihai port are still needed to shift to vessels in Hongkong. On the side, affected by the coastal climate, sometimes the barges can’t pull in and it certainly will cause the delay of transportion. And moreover, this circumstances is the normal thing in the port of Beihai.

Shanghai port

Now the export operation in the port of Shanghai is stricter. Especially, as the cities which will host 2008 Olympic games, the Ministry of Public Security of the People’s Republic of China had announced that fireworks and the other dangerous goods which are planning to transport to or pass through Shanghai or Hongkong won't be supported since Jul. 1 to Oct. 10. Nevertheless, as the administration department of Shanghai port, Shanghai Harbor Bureau hadn’t received any notices which are related with banning the transportation of fireworks and dangerous goods until Apr. 23. On the side, it was reported that the transportation of dangerous goods in the port of Shanghai accounts for a big scale. However, the possibility of banning fireworks transportation during the period of 2008 Olympics Games couldn't be excluded.

Others

Currently, Hunan province government is always discussing with Guangzhou municipal government about the issue of fireworks transportation. And Nansha port is still hopeful to reopen.

Transportation fees

I got the different reply from two shipping companies about this. Perhaps it is due to the different cost and different destination. One shipping company told us that the current transportation fee for every container has risen USD 800 than the same period of last year. And another shipping company said that they had risen about USD 1,000

Which shipping companies can accept fireworks transportation now?

The following shipping companies such MSL, APL, KLINE,MOLCN, CSD, COSCON and etc. can accept fireworks transportation through knowing.

Note: There are many uncertain factors about China fireworks industry currently , so I can just update these info via integrating different data till now. If anyone try to know more Chinese fireworks situation, can contact me via leavinge me a private information or through the following MSN:

Thanks for that information Victor, the possibility of extending the Olympic movement ban until October is very bad news for the UK, since the majority of shipments arrive July through September.

I'd heard Behai was closed to all fireworks until they come up to code so hopefully will resume normality at some stage
