Flash powder and devices containing it are a lot more sensitive and unpredictable than commercial HE, hence the general attitude of trying to be ultra careful and responsible with it on this forum. If you like making big bangs, try to be patient and wait until you get an HE licence!.

Playing with illegal devices WILL come between you and a licensed career in explosives -get caught with M-80s and your career in blasting is over.

Pyro is a very pretty thing. Much more than ground salutes and M-80s. Start reading about pyro , and one day you will able to launch shells of 3" and more , mines , Fountains , etc...

There is a lot of devices and beautiful compositions in pyro, full of colors and sound.

But stay sane and safe , learn the basics , and be carefull, having the safety always as the first thing , because your life deppends in it.

Perhaps if you really just want the report from a salute you could consider using a method which is legal. Depending on where you are, air cannons may be legal, or alternatively you could use a simple sstem which electrolysyses water and collects the gases in a balloon. If you do want to do pyrotechnics then you will find it far more challenging and IMO rewarding to create colours and patterns etc. Start of with rockets and move up from there is my advice.

i started makeing flash for firecrackers. i kind of worked my way up to pyrotecnics. i think you should too you get more satafaction when your first rocket works , or a shell goes off like you would never immagin after months of work. than a quick explosion that is stupid and will almost indeffently lead to loss of body parts.
