Milling star compositions with perchlorates or metal powders is dangerous. Simply get the ingredients fine as possible separately before using them.

well.. ive tried the two batches of willow #2 and there doesn't seem a great deal of difference between milling all the ingredients together and just milling the kn03 and charcoal together, the results are the same a self extinguishing star! there dry inside, even primed with silicon , its looks like the stars light and a layer burns off, i think its the kn03 charcoal burning off with not enough heat to start up the perc, lampblack , even after a "good blow lamping" it goes out, more kn03 less perc? its the first star ive made that didn't burn

Try testing them in a small mine or rocket header, many comps, especially willow type comps need the extra oxygen and the movement of the air to work properly. Try burning a chrys#6 star on the ground and youll see what I mean, youll just end up with a smouldering lump of red hot embers.
You can never have a long enough fuse...
